Backwoods Bastard (2015)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice, and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

This bad boy has been smoothed out nicely by time, bourbon notes remain with a solid viscosity to it. A great beer to for side-by-side!

Super dense and full of smooth vanilla/bourbon, retains some toffee malt character

I have to say this held up and aged phenomenally. Rich caramel toffee and slight smoky undertones. Tons of vanilla and plays well with oak bourbon barrel.

My last bottle. At one time i had a case. This was held in the back of my fridge for 5 years straight. At one time i considered it my favorite beer. My tastes have greatly changed in 5 years, and this beer has too. So long you bastard, its been real 🍻

Ol' dirty bastard now country gentlemen of many a long tooth, telling witty stories of possums lost; age now in decline, so tap this mountain resource while you can.

Additional coronavirus cellar turd bottle. Pretty similar to the last few bottles I had of this vintage. Moderate oxidation trumps all else......lots of floaties in this bastard.

I had this one aging for 5 years now. Time to pop it. The oak flavor is more pronounced than ever, but so very smooth with no burn at all.

Bottled 9/24/2015. Caramel, butterscotch, little bit of spice. Past it’s prime but still recignizes as a wee heavy

Another cellar pull for the BDay week. One of my favorites that aged nicely. Still has most of the vanilla oaky bourbon barrel flavors I love when fresh. Dark fruit flavors and leather notes are more prevalent. Delicious

Lost some but still better than expected. Looking forward to a vertical tasting soon to really evaluate the aging.
