French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022)

Scottish Ale

Backwards Bastard gets the full fledged breakfast treatment! Our malty and rich bourbon barrel-aged scotch ale is introduced to the essence of smooth Maple, warm cinnamon, and notes of sweet vanilla for an incredibly decadent brunch inspired sipper. One taste and you'd swear you were digging into your Sunday morning french toast. Breakfast for dinner anyone? What is something off my bottle

It does remind me of French toast, which is of course the best breakfast

Interesting variant. Bourbon base still there - notes of caramel present. finish loses dark fruits in favor of maple sweet / vanilla / hint cinnamon. It flows well good strength clean and is unique - French toast scottish ale. Don’t think it’ll age well

Heavy on the cinnamon, but pretty much French toast in a bottle.

Hmmm. The base bastard is one of my all-time faves, and the last time I had this varoant in 2020 I loved it. This year, not so much. Seems too oversweet & too much cinnamon this time. Bummer.

This lives up to its name but I’m not sure *I* enjoy it. Lots of maple syrupy sweetness, that hint of butter, just over the top and exactly as described. Props, but for me, it’s a no, just too sweet.

A bit heavy at first taste with the roasty burnt, but that smooths out with some nice maple waffle butter sweetness.

Maple and cinnamon with not much barrel. Very sweet and hoping it gets better as it warms.

Unique, complex but will never replace Backwoods Bastard in my cellar. This may be better if it ages for a few months.
