The grapefruit is a great addition to a beer that I think is pretty average. More flavorful, better balance with added citrus. A little tart. Nice.

HUGE chocolate with hazelnut coffee & barrel notes. I like this more than recent KBS variants.

Coffee is a little overwhelming this time. Not getting much chocolate or vanilla. I remember better balance in past years.

Snowbound Vanilla Porter Kolberg
Vanilla nose. Sweet, coffee, clove & allspice on the palate. Figured it would just be a vanilla / dessert variant on their classic porter, but it’s more complex than that.

Mulling spices on the nose, and big tart fruit on the palate with cranberry, cherry & orange. The bourbon barrel aging adds a little vanilla and a nice warming old fashioned vibe.

Coffee, bourbon, and tart, acidic blueberry juice. Would have preferred a more earthy take on the blueberry, but the up-front brightness of it makes it a little better suited for summer.

Founders always does it right. That roasty coffee base & vanilla / bourbon barrel really shine with the extra chocolate and the tart sweetness of the cherry juice. Cherry can end up in Robitussin territory pretty quick, but this keeps it subtle. Dyno.

I prefer the original to the haze, but this is plenty good. A little non-descript, but a peasant generic “juicy” smooth mouthfeel.

I’ve had this plenty, but it strikes me a touch better tonight. Smoother, with a little extra touch of cocoa and vanilla. Dig it.

With all the thin BA stouts I’ve suffered lately, this a welcome respite. Some heft to justify the ABV. And it has a richness that’s classic Founders.

Scotch Ales aren’t my fav, including Dirty & Backwoods Bastards. But I still had to try this. Love the cinnamon & vanilla + the barrel vibes. I can tell this is great, but the flat, sticky sweet malt bomb beneath the gimmick just doesn’t do it for me.

Anything Founders puts in a bourbon barrel is an automatic buy.

Anything hazy kinda sucks post-Covid, and I love me a DIPA. This cures all. ❤️❤️❤️

The many barrel aged varieties are superb, but I sometimes forget it’s because they all start with such a a dynamite base beer. Special all on its own.

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter Kolberg
Creamy and super balanced with all the benchmarks of a good Bourbon old fashioned.

Absolutely amazing. I love big adjunct stouts, and this is all that in a summer-friendly package. Love.
