It’s not The Perfect Porter ™️(that’s Edmund Fitzgerald), but still pretty good. Leans definitely towards coffee, but I get a slight cocoa aroma and some cocoa notes. Just the barest amount of sweetness at first. That increases as it sits.

I’m welcoming back an old friend. Haven’t had this since 2021 (too long!). Huge bourbon aroma but it has subtle chocolate notes. There’s a big bourbon presence in the taste but it finishes with cocoa. I also am getting subtle vanilla notes. Outstanding.

Got tired of the 4 oz. pours. This was on draft so I got an 8 oz. It’s the typically tart gueze, but it doesn’t finish quite as dry as some of the others. Ends up being fairly drinkable. Also has some Belgian yeast notes that come out over time.

Cuvée Saint-Gilloise (Champions) (2023) Moffat
Trying to stick to Cantillon or Dre Fonteinen since I don’t usually have those. A traditional lambic. It’s tart and dry but not as dry as the ones I have been drinking. I wouldn’t call a lambic crushable but this is pretty drinkable for a lambic.

My first Cantillon. This beer is made with blue honeysuckle berries. Fruity aroma. Notes of grapes and prunes but it’s muted because it’s very tart and dry. Fabulous. #lambicdayatAfterthought.

Founders came relatively late to the Oktoberfest game, but they have done quite well. There are caramel notes but they aren’t especially heavy. Toasty mouthfeel but again not heavy. The hops make for a nice balance.

Very strong citrus aroma, like lemons. Slightly piney, grassy hop notes. I do get some grapefruit but it takes time to come out. Very easy drinking.

Didn’t plan to have a red IPA after a red ale, but here I am. This is what was cold. Nice caramel aroma with some nice caramel notes in the taste. Piney, resinous hops. Not bad, but I’ll stick to red ales or IPAS, not red IPAs.

Wanted to pick up some “All Days” so I might drink some extra. I think there might be some Simcoe in here. My first sniff got what smelled like cat pee (yes, I have a cat). Citrus notes, like lemon zest. Very piney. A touch less body than typical.

Spaceman S. Inspired me to get this beer. My first check in, it was beyond my IBU limit. Now, it’s a really good IPA. The aroma is citrus, getting very close to lime. Bright, citrus flavor (grapefruit). Assertive hops. Glad I have rediscovered this beer.

I have not had this beer in a long time. After the initial pour, I felt like I was getting a citrus aroma very close to limes. It moderated somewhat to just a citrus aroma. Nice malt backbone, notes of caramel. Assertive hops, with piney notes.

Founders is doing a good Oktoberfest these days. I have been looking for this one a bit. Very much caramel but a bit attenuated in the finish. Dry but not especially hoppy.

Welp, my last one of these. Still to me, not as good as the lime version, but I can’t get that here, unfortunately. And so much maltier this year. May have yo write this one off…..

First one of these I have had this year. I prefer the lime version, but this isn’t bad (not a real grapefruit fan). This one actually has bigger malt presence than in past years. Still really good.

Pre pizza beer. Basic IPA. Nice hop character but with a nice malt balance

It IS velvety smooth. The vanilla, coffee and chocolate blend beautifully. Then there’s that little kick at the end with the bourbon. I have enjoyed this beer.

Huge vanilla nose. Then it’s a brown ale for sure, but there’s a blend of chocolate, coffee and the vanilla that makes it so smooth.

This time it’s gotten a little saltier and the tequila is much more present, believe it or not. Probably the last one of these for the season as we head into märzen, porter, stout weather. But still so good

My favorite summer beer. Drinking a margarita. And playing my beer drinking songs at the beach.

I like the lime version better, but this is still pretty good. A bit of berry, melon.

First beer ONTHE BEACH. Not too bad. Light bodied with lots of hops.

Gotta say, I do like the original KBS better, but this is damn good. It’s just a flip flop of KBS. This is more coffee; to me, KBS is more chocolate. It’s still a very tasty beer.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) Moffat
Close second on my favorite BA stouts (BCBS is first). The chocolate comes out more as this warms and balances the bourbon.

Yes it’s espresso but it’s not so overwhelming. There’s a bit if chocolate that balances well. A little like the normal KBS in reverse. To me the regular KBS is more chocolate than coffee so this reverses that. Excellent

Drinking this along Pat Fahey’s Cicerone tasting session on Wee Heavy on You Tube on the big screen. I let it warm just a bit. This particul

Underground Mountain Brown (2020) Moffat
Such a good beer. Pretty close to being a stout but it’s a brown ale on steroids. Brown ale + barrel aging. It’s a cool weather beer

Oh so smooth and slightly sweet. I think the difference in this and Fool’s Gold is there is a bit of vanilla and cocoa in this. Jamie M. this is excellent.

I checked. This IS a 2018. Huge bourbon aroma. Well aged. The hops make an interesting mix with the rum nuances. This is definitely a sipping beer. But really good

The Belgian yeast keeps it from being an over the top fruit beer. Tart and refreshing.
