1000 IBU (Mikkeller Beer Lab)

IPA - Imperial / Double

An old classic from the days where an IPA was clear and bitter. IPA's were defined by its IBU and sometimes the higher the better. 1000 IBU is (one of) the most bitter beer ever brewed. Theoretically 1000 IBU - 10 times as much as a very bitter IPA. A beer that pushes the boundaries and takes things to the limit. Well balanced by its malty body.

Wow it's grassy, lightly herbal, a moderate pine character and some malty sweetness. Odd novelty beer.

Piney, dank and grapefruity. Hefty malty and fruity body hiding all that bitterness rather well. Maybe more than before in this iteration. There is a certain lasting bitter tingle in the finish though. Somehow balanced and deceptively drinkable. 4.2
