KBS Espresso (2020)

Stout - Imperial / Double Coffee

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

Not much to say about this that isn’t obvious. It is what it is, and what it is is delicious. Thank my 2 year old son for the parade occupying my normal photo spot.

Aroma of bourbon and coffee. Pours black with a tan brown head that thinned after a couple sips. Lots of different things going on in the mouth: coffee, chocolate, hops and bourbon round out a malty backbone. Chocolate lingers. Not as thick as some others

Certainly smells like coffee! I guess you could put this Highly Acclaimed 12% BBA Chocolate Coffee Stout in your morning travel mug and no one would be the wiser. What’s it like? Think KBS with Espresso. Perhaps that’s where they got the name from?

So.......much.......COFFEE! Unfortunately it overtakes alot of the barrel. A great beer for sure though.

Not a bourbon fan, but this is really smooth. A very low key 12%.

Another gifted Founders, another very good stout. There are better coffee stouts, and there are many worse. I feel like KBS Espresso pretends to lean on roasty coffee but it's so much sweeter than that

Mm... like basic kbs this has all the elements needed. Coffee, chocolate, dark and sweet roastyness and sweet bourbon. Just inch too much bitternes for my taste. Overall premium beer.
