8.5% Wee Heavy OK, that’s another name for Scotch Ale, but that’s already on the label. Malty, with caramel and toffee notes. Always a great brew! Another brew which goes great with cheesecake! Maybe I just like strong tasting beers with cheesecake?

KBS Spicy Chocolate (2023) Beers

12% BBA Imperial Stout with Coffee, Chocolate, and Chili Peppers I get chocolate on the sip, peppers are light on the finish but linger on the tongue begging for another sip. Full bodied Stout with a thick mouthfeel, all very good. Coffee in the middle

Backwoods Bastard Beers

11% BBA Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy 2024 Release So good! The barrel works with the Wee Heavy to give a smooth sipper. Interestingly the barrel masks the generous ABV. You taste the barrel but get none of the burn from 11%. Full bodied and malty. Great!

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) Beers

2019 (11.3%) and 2023 (11.1%) vertical. 2019 was supposed the last year for CBS until now. I found the ‘19 to be slightly more boozy while the ‘23 was smoother. CBS is a Breakfast Stout aged with Bourbon and Maple

World Wide Stout Beers

15.5% Imperial Stout A little heat on this brew. Smooth, malty, and delicious! This is definitely a sipping brew. Excellent Stout with no extras. No barrel, no vanilla, no coconut, no coffee. Just Stout and of course the ABV! Seymour approves!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2018) Beers

12.31% BBA Coffee Stout Bottled 03.12.18 so 5.5 years old and starting to fade. The coffee predominates with barrel and stout tied for 2nd place. ABV is still MIA, but this ale still rocks. Because it mellowed you now get to enjoy greater complexity

Founders Oktoberfest (2023) Beers

6% Marzen Taste is very German. Founders did their best to replicate an Oktoberfest Marzen, and did a great job. Malty and slightly sweet, this beer adheres to the German Purity Laws.

11% BBA Scotch Ale What a nice brew! A barrel aged Wee Heavy, and 11%. I have been waiting for this all night but I owed Marc-Antoine H. an answer. It was worth the wait! A little boozy with the barrel but the roasted malts & caramel create complexity!

7% full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin, brown sugar & spice This is a nice Pumpkin Ale. Lightly spiced but I still taste the spice more than the pumpkin. Color looks like a pumpkin, head lingers as does the lacing and the mouthfeel is good

Oktoberfest Beers

6% Marzen Using German ingredients & adhering to purity laws, Founders has made an imitation Marzen. It’s a fine beer, hits all the marks, but it lacks the spark that originals have. Sure it’s creamy, smooth and sweet as well as malty it’s good not great

5% Gose brewed with Sea Salt & Pink Peppercorn with Cherry juice & Guava added A collaboration with Talea Beer Co. Not a bad ale, the peppercorn ruins it for me, pepper on the finish seems misplaced. The fruits are not prominent enough either

Dirty Bastard Beers

8.5% Scotch Ale I really enjoy a Wee Heavy, and this is no exception. Smooth with a good mouthfeel and a flavor that coats your mouth (in this case, that’s a good thing). Malty with notes of dried fruits, hopped up (pun intended) by generous use of hops.

4.7% Session West Coast IPA Thanks Dave R. for this Session IPA you can actually taste. There are plenty of hops, so certain drinkers beware, and the brew is quite tasty with a piney finish.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA Beers

17% Imperial IPA Gotta love these guys. None of this messing around with double, triple, or quad. Just Imperial. We’re old enough to read and understand the ABV. This ale is exceptional. Drinks like a Barleywine, not quite as complex, but close. Wild!

11% BBA Imperial Stout with Coffee, Maple Syrup, and Chocolate 2022 release. This is an impressive Stout with a hidden ABV. You get the chocolate on the nose before you get it on your first sip, then then the coffee demands to be recognized. Great Stout

11.6% BBA Imperial Stout with Coffee, Chocolate & Cherry A nice addition to this series. The coffee still leads with trailing cherry. The chocolate and Stout are there but in a more supportive role. But this is not to diminish the way they work together

11.1% BBA Scotch Ale Founders took a Wee Heavy and drowned it in Maple Syrup with some Vanilla and Cinnamon. I can hardly taste the Scotch Ale much less the Bourbon or ABV. Mostly I get Maple. So sweet you might have to check your blood sugar!

16.6% Imperial IPA Note: not a “Double” or a “Triple” or any such nonsense because if 10% is a triple than this would be a “Quintuple”. Fortunately for the mathematically challenged they just put the number on the bottle. A great, if a little boozy, IPA!

12% BBA Stout Did anyone say coffee? Well here it is! KBS already had chocolate and coffee but Founders decided to age it on Espresso beans after being removed from the barrel. As you would expect the coffee predominates but it’s still a great Stout!

17.2% Barrel Aged Stout. Big Boy Stout here. ABV is NOT hidden! It would be hard to hide. Somewhat malty but the real thing you notice is a boozy barrel aged stout. Notice is probably too mild a word. It hits you in the mouth, hard! I liked it a lot!🍻

15% BBA Imperial Milk Stout with Vanilla. Although to be fair I hardly taste the vanilla. It may have gotten lost in the past three years. What’s not lost is the Stout, the Barrel, and the heat in your nose when you swallow - all good things!

Scarlet Dawn IPA Beers

5.1% Session Red IPA. Not much to say here. It’s clean lightly hopped with a slightly malty finish. I prefer a more pronounced brew.

8.2% NEIPA. Game of Thrones badged, hence the GoT glassware. Smooth and delicate, not in your face at all. Tasty.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Beers

12% BBA Imperial Stout with Coffee, Cinnamon, Vanilla, and Cocoa nibs aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels. The cinnamon really comes through, but in a pleasant way. A tiny hint of ABV on the finish, but a little aging should fix that (bottled 9/2/21).

16.5% Belgian Strong Dark Ale brewed with raisins. I’m at a loss about the raisins, I can taste them, but this brew is about the Belgian Strong Dark Ale and the ABV. If they tried to hide the ABV they failed! Smooth and heavy bodied this is a sipping ale!

Más Agave Grapefruit (2021) Beers

9.7% Imperial Gose brewed with Agave, aged in Tequila barrels then dosed with Grapefruit juice. It’s smooth with a tangy finish and a rich mouthfeel. No trace of ABV with everything else going on.

Mas Agave (2021) Beers

10% Imperial Gose brewed with Agave, aged in Tequila barrels with added lime. It’s also amazing. No hint of the generous ABV, just slightly tart with a lime aftertaste.

Tasty 4.6% Session Wheat Ale. Nicely hopped and well balanced a great summer’s day ale, because as we all know the big guns come out at night 🍻

Old school 7.2% IPA featuring Centennial hops. Not hazy. Not juicy. The way IPAs were before West Coast and New England styles.

6.5% Fruited Tart Ale. Well that tells you nothing besides the ABV. Picture a fruit smoothie with alcohol. Of course that sounds really good and that’s what this is. Only slightly tart with loads of fruit flavor. I approve (like Dogfish Head gives a 💩)

4 Giants IPA (2021) Beers

9.2% Imperial IPA. Hoppy with a sweet malt backbone. Midwest style, no West Coast piney, no New England hazy juicy, just a really solid IPA. Plenty of hops, I believe seven. Good brew!

Nemesis (2021) Beers

Smooth, 11.2%, Barleywine. Thick mouthfeel, substantial head, and a full body. Malty with some ABV noticeable.

Hazy-O! Beers

7.1% Hazy, Juicy, IPA. This is definitely Oat Soda as several types of oats are used to give this brew softness and body. Lots of hops were used too. No hop burn or ABV burn, just a great ale!

Panther Cub (2021) Beers

9.2% BBA Porter with Vanilla and Maple Syrup. Very well balanced, you taste all the flavors at the same time. What you don’t taste is the ABV. I guess that’s the Panthers claws! This one is less than a month old. I may have to get a few more for aging

Underground Mountain Brown Beers

(2020) Release. Imperial Brown Ale w/Sumatra coffee aged in Bourbon Barrels. Bourbon first, coffee second, followed (in the distance) by brown. Very nice, no real ABV burn, just the barrel taste.

KBS Espresso (2020) Beers

Certainly smells like coffee! I guess you could put this Highly Acclaimed 12% BBA Chocolate Coffee Stout in your morning travel mug and no one would be the wiser. What’s it like? Think KBS with Espresso. Perhaps that’s where they got the name from?

Campfire Amplifier Beers

Slightly smoky 6.5% milk stout. Chocolate and stout predominate with smoke only on the aftertaste. Very nice Stout, delicious!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2017) Beers

While I have my Founders glass out, what better excuse to revisit the 2017 KBS? This Stout has mellowed and everything seems more balanced. There’s still chocolate, coffee, and bourbon barrel, but now it’s smooth with all playing nice.

Very nice Raspberry Sour. As is typical with many sours, this one has a low ABV (.3%). All D B. thought I would never drink one of these. It’s really pretty good, any shortcomings could be fixed with 10% more alcohol, but that’s not in the cards tonight

OK, I raided the compound aging cellar again! There was this 11.8% stout just sitting there, it looked so good, and I was so thirsty. What was it being saved for? I figured I better drink it before the Wuhan Chinese Virus gets me. Great Stout, well aged!
