Dankwood (2018)

Red Ale - Imperial / Double

What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that'll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops. You may remember this beer as barrel-aged reDANKulous, which was featured heavily in our taproom (and many of our bellies). 12.2% ABV. 65 IBUs. Dankwood is the third release of 2018 in the Barrel-Aged Series.

Bottom left. Disappointed. Seems sludgy, bitter and not good. Must be the last of it

Another Founders 2018/19 in the cellar! Apparently I bought 1 ea of those on their last brew before Founders stopped them & I’ve been having each this past few days! Each has been amazing including this one. Should have bought a 4 pack of each - dumb guy!

Been a while. Nose of chocolate bourbon booze. Still plenty of life, great colour and carb. Rich fruity body, burnt caramels. Finishing with intense boozy bitterness.

Kuivunut on vuosien myötä, runko myös ohentunut. Humala tulee yllättävän terhakkaasti esiin edelleen ja tynnyröinti maistuu myös, onhan tämä laatuolut edelleen..

4/19/18. True to it's name. This is a boozy, velvety, wet bourbon barrel. Hops have fallen off so it's drinking more like a barley wine. This is a nice treat.

Booming with flavor after years of storage. The nose is pretty wild as well. I wasn't sure how this one was going to hold up, but I'm pleasantly surprised!

Bourbon BA imperial Red IPA. Bourbon, wood, caramel, vanilla, citrus, orange, and some pine. Lovely flavor combination, aged very well.

Aged 5 years (and a day!). Kinda sorta blah-ish, but got better as it warmed. Mostly an overly bitter BA barleywine. Looking at my original rating, i wasn't stoked over this back then either.

I've heard you shouldn't cellar IPAs, but i wanted to try it anyway. Pretty good. The barrel comes through strong, still plenty of hop bitterness. Boozy. It feels like i accomplished something. Im not sure what, though.
