Backwoods Bastard

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate. Distribution Note: Now available year-round beginning April of 2018.

Amazing. I thought I was buying a porter but it’s a scotch ale. Delicious.

Well a great beer to sip on while making a homebrew of the same style. Malty and biscuits. Great beer!

Both are really good but I think this might actually be better than KBS. The sweet carmel malt mixed with the earthy savory smoky barrel age are phenomenally well balanced.

Cellar aged. Not sure the year, but probably 4-6 years old. Lots of oak, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla. Could easily age a few more years.

This beer has it all - ‘single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark cherries’ ... all at 11+%! Best beer on Thanksgiving Day 2020!

Wee Heavy D6: Pours deep coppery with a full head and whisky aroma. Starts strong, smooth and malty. Body is caramelly, heavy and boozy from bourbon barrel aging. Finishes with lingering peat, oak, bourbon and woody notes. Amazing on a cool, rainy day!

I don't know why but anytime a beer goes from seasonal/specialty to year round it's not quite as good to me. Still delicious, just not as much as I remembered.
