Palo Santo Marron

Brown Ale - Imperial / Double

An unfiltered, unfettered, unprecedented brown ale aged in handmade wooden brewing vessels. The caramel and vanilla complexity unique to this beer comes from the exotic Paraguayan Palo Santo wood from which these tanks were crafted. Palo Santo means "holy tree" and its wood has been used in South American wine-making communities.

Covid cellar clearing. 2013 bottle. Holds up really well. Smooth flavor although kind of mild. Great carbonation.

A bold, malty ale. Heavy with a hint of caramel.

Not bad, but the booziness kind of overwhelms the flavor of the brown ale.

Aged for 2 years. Has mellowed out some, but is still a little too harsh for my liking. The woody taste from the barrels really comes through here and overshadows the vanilla and caramel flavors. The last one will be had next March to see if it improves.

Tastes like wood, the booze taste certainly died down, and so did most of the flavor. Still good for a 12% beer. Not sure how this is considered a brown ale as lit pours nearly black, but hey what do I know… this bottle is a little over 5 years old.
