Rye Barrel-Aged Palo Santo Marron

Brown Ale - Imperial / Double

This special version of our wood-aged imperial brown ale first spent a month in our 10,000 gallon foeders made of Paraguayan Palo Santo wood, imparting spicy vanilla and sandalwood notes. It then got a year-long rest in some Peerless Rye Whiskey barrels, which created a dense and complex flavor profile with exuberant oak, vanilla and cacao notes. Thick and chewy, this is one compelling ale to sip and ponder.

Sweet. Very smooth. Malty. Boozy with masked ABV FOR A 2019. Nice eye notes linger.

Take a beer created in Palo Santo wood tanks and lovingly pour it into rye barrels and wait. What you get is a deep, complex mahogany beauty with rye on the nose, lighter roast than an imperial stout and jut a delight to sip. Bravo, DFH!

Purchased from the brewery in the summer of 2019. Great beer, but I think I enjoyed the base beer better.
