Pours with deep mahogany color and no head. Some Belgian notes dominated by dark fruit and raisins. Picked as the “Best American in 2000” by Malt Advocate Magazine, Its not as good as I remember.

Strong aroma of raisins and black licorice; faint oxidized malt: it's an old bottle. Raisins, burnt caramel flavour; licorice is almost balsamic. Lightly roasted coffee & a hint of final smoke.

Good, but definitely strong and more of a wine taste than beer. Really interesting!

A bit too strong for the mood I'm in right now. Would probably parallel with brown bread and sauerkraut.

Was one of my fav beers like Midas touch before it was discontinued. The D'extra is better for aging and stronger anyway, but really good Barleywine style ale and lots of brown sugar and raisin sweetness
