Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019)

Probably my tolerance is down but the alcohol seemed hotter than what i remember. Good that it didn’t have the acidity of the last bottle. Still has good flavors of dark chocolate, mineral, and vanilla smoothed out by barrel aging.

Almost perfect. Has a slight tartness that’s barely noticeable but preventing the 5⭐️. BA smoothed flavors of: dry roast cacao, mineral, vanilla, coffee. I like how it’s dark but not too roasty. Excellent!

I like how this is noticeably sweeter than KBS yet not enough to describe it as sweet. Maybe that hard water sensation lends to the non sweetness. Also really like how the flavors (vanilla, dark chocolate, nuts, coffee) are subtle while being very smooth.

Más Agave Prickly Pear

2021 bottle. Relative to fruited gose this is great. Relative to all beers it might be a 4. Strangely sweet and sour, and maybe even salty. Has an odd ba woody bitterness. Not my style but still appreciable.

Very smooth ba flavors with no real pronounced flavors. Nice that it no longer has a mineral / hard water taste. Tastes like it’s near or maybe past its peak. Unexpected that it’s not nearly as dry as the maple mackinac fudge.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020)

Smoother than i recall. Not as sweet, even some acidic notes after, possibly from the roast. Still has a mild pleasant roasted coffee / cacao aftertaste. Well balanced.

Perfect day for a breakfast beer. Much more dry than i remembered or was expecting. Also has a roasty, bitter, minerally taste. The bitterness is on the high side of appropriate and shows up late with the heat.

Más Agave Prickly Pear

Can’t imagine a sour tasting better than MA lime. This one is good but a notch lower. idk what prickly pear tastes like but I would describe this as red fruit, like raspberry. Kind of candy flavor. Beer is malty and tart.

Panther Cub

basically CBS lite, and that’s not a bad thing if it means a significant decrease in calories. Total guess of a 30% decrease. Instead of dark chocolate and coffee, there’s more vanilla. Similar sweet, roast and maple profile. Imagine a 12pack of cans!!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019)

Rather thin and dry for a ba stout. Also a hint of acidity or bitterness. Kinda disappointing relative to Founders’ standards. Still earns a 4.25

Coffee is the only noticeable element, not that that’s a bad thing but in more of a dry way versus the mackinac fudge coffee variant. Also a bit thin but the intensity helps cover that up.

KBS Espresso (2020)

Black color. Wood and espresso aroma. Not sure if I taste coffee or chocolate. alcohol is the dominant flavor. Other than that there’s definitely ba smoothness. Slight roasty, acidity, bitterness in the aftertaste that I’m guessing age would fix.

Unraveled IPA

Reminds me of a west coast ipa which is a style I don’t like. Dark yellow color. Initial flavor is floral (usually a bad sign for me but in this case i like it), then the excessive bitterness takes over and doesn’t leave.

Más Agave Premium Hard Seltzer Strawberry

I knew it was 4.5% abv but did not know it is 10% juice. Unlike mega brands this tastes natural (subtly fruity)and also has a more natural mouthfeel. I was also surprised to learn that in addition to alcohol from cane sugar, blue agave is another source.
