The nose is fruity, vegetal, earthy, and hoppy all at the same time, and is not for the amateur. The body is almost thick and definitely boozy, and demands slower, more meticulous sips. The flavor is bitter, vegetal, resin, and even medicinal.

There's an oaky, earthy depth on the nose, almost moldy or mushroom-y, as well as wet chili pepper, like peppers that have gone mushy. The oak flavor leads & is quite dry, w/ peppers there, but w/o the spice. Cacao pods, maybe, w/ a spice tingle later.

Salt, wheat, orange, peach, & a lactic sour base is all on the nose. The body is aggressively lactic & salty all at once, w/ a slight peach flavor & an even lesser citrus note. Unexpected & certainly unique, but not refreshing or super enjoyable.

Wake Up World Wide Stout (2022) Langdon
Molasses, wet oak, burnt cinnamon, and some smoky bacon on the nose. The smoky flavors leads, with bitter molasses behind it. There's a touch of cinnamon and maple, but both are burnt and behind the scenes. The stout tastes more fresh than barrel aged.

A little blueberry on the nose combines with a bit of vanilla and buttery oak, making this a boozy, chocolate-y blueberry muffin. The blueberry is easily tasted, but appears as a sour flavor instead of sweet, and finishes with some slightly dry chocolate.

A great nose of oak & a bit of chocolate behind it, w/ perhaps a microscopic, placebo amount of cherry as well. Lots of cocoa & sweet, charred oak, along w/ some syrupy, artificial cherry flavor, like a chocolate cherry cordial. Finishes dry, but sweet.

Huge notes of soft tropical fruit & a very creamy NEIPA-style body on the nose. An addition of orange juice is also smelled, but otherwise classic hazy IPA all-around. Bitter tasting, but the body is still somewhat creamy, w/ a floral & juniper finish.

French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022) Langdon
The maple really comes through on the nose, along w/ everything else, really conjuring that French toast image. The original base ale taste is still present, & while the barrel creates a complex flavor, the other added notes really sweeten the deal.

Smells like the Americano I had this morning; all the coffee! The flavor is also full of coffee, as well as cacao, oak, & vanilla, in that order. I can tell the base is brown ale, which is how it blends so well together, but the sweetness is still there.

There's definitely a fairly large hit of mango on the nose, on top of a very neutral ale, and a spice that's more like white pepper than anything hotter. The flavor is very fruity, with mango included, but even more mixed fruit involved. Very mild heat.

Familiar scent of malt and overripe banana, with just a touch of something fresher, from the agave. Very malty and boozy, with the banana turning to bubblegum as expected. The agave is not tasted, but makes the body just slightly lighter.

Thick body & a nice, dark head. Hazelnut on the nose, no question, w/ a hint of used oak. As expected (and hoped), this tastes like barrel aged Nutella, although the nuttiness is quite potent. Oak is also present, but some sweetness would help balance.

Familiar vanilla sweetness that nitro imparts hits the nose first, but then the also familiar potent oak and dark caramel soon follow. The nitro makes this a much lighter body, and adds a malty sweetness that's not quite welcome, and doesn't blend.

Utopias Barrel - Aged World Wide Stout (2021) Langdon
Definitely a boozy scent, but still not what I'd expect for 17%. Familiar notes of brandy and some cherries, but thankfully not overpowering. Almost tough to get down with the booziness, but the cherries are missing in lieu of raisins, oak, and sherry.

Somehow a 2022 version??? A fairly cherry colored body, but some hops on the head. Lots of buttery oak on the nose, with the cherry being both sour, sweet, and light. The cherry flavor is light enough to be enjoyed, but the barrel hammers it home.

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter Langdon
Not sure what to expect here, but I'm excited. Plenty of oak on the nose, with just a bit of orange, cherry, and some coffee. The barrel flavor is obvious from the start, as is some booziness, but the cherry, orange, and coffee notes combine very well.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Langdon
A bit of extra vanilla and some spice on the nose (although not specifically cinnamon), as compared to the original. Slightly more cocoa than normal, both dark and milk, with a cinnamon backbone that doesn't overpower. Not worth the outrageous price.

Scent of wet, charred oak, caramel, vanilla, and some dark roast coffee, in that order. Big notes of roasted coffee, although a more medium roast is detected. Definite barrel notes, but more of the vanilla and caramel than oak itself. Not as good on tap.

I love the perfect, foamy heads that Belgians give off. A sour wheat scent up front, which I'm hoping comes from the orange, because there's very minimal spice smelled. The orange leads the flavor at first, but then deep spices come in, not overpowering.

Didn't super care for the original, so hoping grapefruit changes it. Good tequila and oak scent, with some bitter and citrus as well. Sour and full of buttery oak, with plenty of grapefruit balanced. Much better than the lime version.

Ah yes, a vintage of a beer that was just released. Maple and oak are obvious on the nose, and the sweetness jumps out. Barrel aged maple syrup is the first flavor I get, then the smoky porter takes over for the finish. Would benefit from longer aging.

Underground Mountain Brown Langdon
Scent is a bit light, but I get a lot of caramel mixed with coffee. The taste has a good amount of the caramel flavor from the brown ale combined with what tastes like a dark roast coffee. The barrel flavor comes through well too, but the finish is clean.

Black on black in nightmare glass. Perfect chocolate covered raspberry scent. Chocolate covered raspberry taste. What more to expect from Founders? It is, however, a bit thin.
