If beer were a solid, I’d still drink it.

4 Giants Tropical Treasure

Muddled mango and pineapple collide over a saccharine, overripe orange funkiness. Nothing works, way too sweet and way too foot-like. Leaves a drying astringency that’s quite unpleasant. Not good beer.

Raison D'Extra

The fact that this was so huge and implacable after 5 years in the bottle is a testament to the stature of this brew. Tons of sweet fig and raisin flavor with light funk and rich malt with burned brown sugar. Glad I got to try it. Great beer.

120 Minute IPA (2023)

Rich, sweet malt with lots of booze. Barely wine through and through - pleasant caramel, light funk, interesting as ever. Great beer.

Wake Up World Wide Stout

Sharp coffee on the open with rich, delicious waves of chocolate coming through as it rests. I didn’t get much of the maple syrup until the very end. One of those brews that evolves in the glass and continues to surprise you. Great beer.

KBS Blueberry

Chocolate with light berry and dark fruit. Has a sourness to it that is a little off putting. No booze, but hints of wood here and there. Good beer.

All Day IPA

Pine, dry grass, touch of sweet malt and bread. On the bitter side, stimulates the appetite so pairs well with savory foods. A lot of flavor for the price point, worthy of a spot in the rotation. Pretty good beer

French Toast Bastard

All maple syrup on the nose, overwhelmingly so. Opens with a flatter, lightly sweet, bitter profile that’s got some wood and bourbon. Off putting at first as it contrasts with the smell, but it does settle into a sweet buttery finish. Pretty good beer.

Rübæus

Raspberry is right. Sweet and pleasantly tart. Pairs well with savory foods and this warmer weather. Not too effervescent and maybe a touch dry and puckering on the finish. Good beer.

Frootwood

Huge cherry and bittering cranberry flavor upfront. A good amount of wood blends in as well. Not too much maple, bourbon heat is here and there. Tasty and sweet, fun drink to end the night. Good beer.

4 Giants IPA

Tough pour but this was a well balanced, earth/pine forward brew with sweet barley heavy malt working with a juicy hop flavor. As much as I enjoy a hazy beer it’s always nice to get back to a classic profile. Great beer.

Utopias Barrel - Aged World Wide Stout (2021)

Hot wife pictured! Leather, dark wood and vanilla open up on this one. Tons of bourbon flavor with subtle coca and heat. Warms into a cola flavor with raisin that could use a bit of aging to balance out. Excited to try this one for a while. Good beer.

Backwoods Bastard

It drinks lighter than expected. Woody and strong. with dark fruit flavor over a heated base. Acidic towards the finish, but really just so tasty. Great beer.

Kentucky Bourbon Stout (KBS) (2021)

Classic KBS. Coffee and chocolate were subtler this time, but it’s still a roasty and well balanced brew. Warming and tasty that hides the ABV exceptionally well. Still a great beer.

Panther Cub (2021)

Roasty, with rich bourbon notes upfront over tasty coffee and chocolate. The maple comes on the back end, exceptionally smooth. Great beer.

Nemesis (2021)

Super tasty. Dark fruit with bittering hoppy pine flavor over a full and malty base. Exceptionally smooth for the ABV. Super drinkable, great beer.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020)

For sure lots of sweet chocolate and maple. The wood comes out on the backend, and as expected no trace of the 12%. Super tasty and choice for dessert. Great beer.
