Utopias Barrel - Aged World Wide Stout (2021) Parkington

Okay, so this has a peak, and I think the peak may have passed, but I’m still delighted to be having this again. Unbelievable that this is 17%. So well buried. Lots of burn and roast, but there’s a good amount of toffee and chocolate.

Kjøbenhavner Sour Parkington

Bye, Copenhagen! Så fantastisk. Until next time. It’s so interesting to see almost every other food and drink place filled to the brim with people, and only jergen p. and I are here. Extra-watery pineapple with a touch of salt in this one.

Big Doink Parkington

Yoooooooo. What a name. Tastes mostly like strawberry kiwi. There might be some other stuff going on, but I just ate a bag of chips, a complete 180 from that Mes meal we just finished. This is a nice treat.

Spontan Goes Spontan Parkington

Surprised by the low rating. I’m finding this profile really interesting, albeit on the nose. It’s so rife with bergamot that it’s almost perfume. But it shifts into rich cherry and plum quite quickly. Ends very bitter and green. Would have more!

Mammamamma Double Passionfruit Cheesecake Sour Ale Parkington

First beer of the Copenhagen leg. Only fitting to start with the first Danish brewery I ever tried. Nothing wrong with a little extra sour dessert in the early afternoon. So much passionfruit. Has that apricot/peach/plum pucker. Bursting with flavor.

45 Days Organic Pilsner Parkington

This is enjoyable, but I can understand the low rating I suppose. Way more freshly-cut flowers, hay, and cane sugar than I’ve ever tasted from this style. Kind of reminds me of a hop soda. Lacks the apple skin and bread vibes I prefer.

Nath (2021) Parkington

Also spectacular. Much lighter profile than the others tonight. Straight rhubarb juice. Quite tart, but not in rubbery territory. A bit like blackberries and plum, too. Has that slightly seedy vibe.

Vigneronne (2020) Parkington

Things make a bit more sense now. Cantillon, Allagash, and Russian River takeover at Novare. So delicious. Fresh white grapes, oak, a bit of smokiness, a bit of char. Lots of hay and yeasty funk, but stays crisp. Doesn’t make you pucker too much.

Gueuze 100% Lambic Bio (2021) Parkington

Certainly the most vinegar-adjacent Cantillon I’ve had, and I’m really loving it. So savory. All of the fermentation notes are at the forefront. Dead and decomposing grass and leaves, pear skin, kombucha starter, a bit of leather, and dry white wine.

Iris (2016) Parkington

From the dusty basement. Plums and hay/straw in the nose. The taste brings me back to being a kid, trying to dodge yellow-jackets hovering around all the decomposing apples that had fallen from our crabapple tree.

Fou’ Foune (2021) Parkington

I’m in a little deep right now, but this is also blowing my mind. There’s a healthy amount of yeast-forward sour in every sip, but the surrounding flavor is exactly like peach cobbler. Earthy, decomposed leaves. Smells like a neglected fruit bowl.

Lambic D'Aunis 2020 Parkington

That’s beautiful. One of the more recent vintages I’ve had. Fresh cherry juice, skin and stems included. Shifts to fermented yeast, oak, charred barrel, and straw-like earthiness. A bit of nutmeg/cinnamon/clove, as well.

Fruit Salud Parkington

If I’m speaking frankly, this feels like some old fart forgot they had a citrus-based fruit salad in the fridge for an entire lifetime, and decided to haze their great-grandchildren by making them eat the old, fucked up pineapple chunks. I’m here for it.

SpontanCherry Frederiksdal (2018) Parkington

Martha S., this is the closest we could get, and it’s UNREAL how much this tastes like juice. I don’t know anything about Frederik or his valley, but his cherries are scrumptious in liquid form.

Saison Du Skovgårde Parkington

Great when you’re lost in the woods! Smells a bit like the tin cup, which is totally my fault. Checks all the boxes for me. A hint of peach. Nice orange zest, grass, hay, and honey. Coriander and peppercorn at the end.

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio (2015) Parkington

Beautifully ripe cherry and cherry skin right off the vine to start. Moves into vinegar, oak, wood fire, and musty barrel notes before rounding off into sour candy sugar, a bit of lemon, and some very muted vanilla and caramel.

Beer Geek Breakfast Parkington

Breaking Whole30 early. Probably should’ve gone with something more exciting. Malt-forward. Dark coffee dregs. Molasses. Not bad.
