Hazy Squall (2024) Donovan

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Donovan

I do love KBS, but I think this variation is a bit of a miss, as least after 2+ years of aging and in this specific ratio. There is definitely too much cinnamon in the mix and the black coffee is too prevalent now, making for a dry, fairly bitter stout.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) Donovan

3 years since I’ve had one of these from the stash. This 4+ year-old beer is even more amazing now, by far! The first sip was rum raisin, but it faded to leave fudge batter, dark cherry, and dark chocolate. Smooth, sweet, deep, and dark. Awesome!

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) Donovan

Helluva nightcap! Still plenty of black coffee, but also some rum raisin, fudge, and bakers chocolate. The coffee bitterness has mitigated, but the boozy bite has not. Better than 3 years ago.

Punkin Ale Donovan

First time I’ve had this beer in nine years I think.  can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s actually a pumpkin beer with some subtlety to it. 

Citrus Squall Donovan

Significant light grapefruit with some background notes of apricot. Herbal and floral in the middle with some resiny hops towards the finish. Stays interesting throughout, although it could perhaps use some body or additional high-end.

All Day IPA Donovan

Kernza Pils Donovan

I had several, and they seemed to get more floral as I went. The nose had a flowery sweetness with a bit of white wine, while the taste had some soapiness and a hint of underlying caramel. Not as clean as I would expect from a Pils, but quite drinkable.

collab between Dogfish Head and Trillium that doesn’t really taste like either. 2 breweries with different styles, for sure. Soft, balanced, easy to drink, low-key, with nothing standing out. Soft, fruity, fairly easy drinking, but nothing to recommend.

All Day Vacay Donovan

First taste was more aggressive and bigger than expected, but that quickly mitigated to sweet lemon with a wheat base. Easily drinkable.

Hazy-O! Donovan

Not usually a big fan of oats in beers, and this beer does nothing to change that. Kind of disappointed in DFH for this beer, as it’s pedestrian at best and kind of cliched.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) Donovan

Fudgy and dark and deep. Age is starting to round the edges and draw out new flavors.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) Donovan

Chocolatey fudge and... more of that. Wonderful fragrant nose. Thick and smooth and dark. A solid alcohol kick at the finish. Very much a one note wonder, but a great one note!
