Klassieke Blond Burgess

Not bad at all. Well balanced, biscuit, honey, slight clean bitterness at finish. Easy drinking.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Burgess

2020 bottle. Hated this fresh, so the bottles have been languishing in my cellar. On a whim, gave it another try. Have to say it’s improved. Still very chocolatey, velvety and sweet. But the maple and fake-ish fudge notes have reduced a ton. Drinkable now

Snowbound Vanilla Porter Burgess

The regular Porter is great, I’m not sure the vanilla adds much in this case.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA Burgess

Sweet, wood, sherry, a lot of barrel booze to add to already high booziness. Interesting to mix the wood and vanillin with the sweet hops.

Grolsch Premium Lager Burgess

Used to drink this long ago; I think I just thought the swingtop bottles were cool. Bright gold, no head retention. Dough, hay, honey and faint herbal hops. Less skunky notes (Green Bottle Beer Syndrome, or GBBS) than I remember it having back in the day.

Chocolate Cherry KBS Burgess

Strong cherry aroma, more chocolate in the taste. Coffee, bourbon, wood. Cherry adds a little tartness, perhaps thins the body out a little. I like this variant better than some of the others I’ve tried, but it’s still not better than standard KBS.

Rosé de Gambrinus Burgess

Lemon tart, dry, very acidic, sour berry, musty funk. A sour lover’s sour. This may well be one of the great examples of fruited lambic, however it’s not something I particularly love. I guess I may like the Cantillon story better than Cantillon beer.

Frootwood Burgess

Wanted to like this, and can appreciate what they were going for, but this was not enjoyable for me. The sweetness from the cherry was amplified by the vanillin notes of the wood and syrup, making an overwhelmingly sickly sweet combo. Couldn’t finish it.

Kriek Boon Burgess

Late from thanksgiving. This is a perfect beer to pair with traditional turkey dinner. Starts sweet with tons of dark cherry aroma and flavor. Finishes with some tartness that makes it clean and dry. Well balanced sweet-tart, better than cranberry sauce.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Burgess

Good not great. Lots of fudge. Vanilla is smooth. Grainy cinnamon comes at the end. Sweet and viscous, a bit of a boozy finish. Thankfully it’s way better than the Mackinac fudge crap, but still not as good as plain old brilliant KBS.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Burgess

Smell and taste are overwhelmed by artificially flavored fudge coffee. Maple adds cloying sweetness. I don’t know what kind of fudge coffee they use or how it’s flavored, but it tastes tremendously, stomach-turningly artificial to me.

Pilsner Burgess

Nice pils. Crisp and clean but with a restrained hand of american hops - a pleasant added dimension of citrus zest and clean bitterness. Easy drinking.
