Gargantua

Stout - Imperial / Double

Gargantua, father of Pantagruel, is a giant that appears in the 16th century novels from François Rabelais. Like the character, the beer resting in this bottle is big, bold and full of character. First conceived at the beginning of a global pandemic, Gargantua wants to express a certain lightness of spirit brewed in disdain for unforeseen events. An extremely thick and complex wort was fermented using an english strain that left behind a good amount of residual sugars. The black nectar was then transferred to fresh bourbon barrels, where it aged for 12 months. The result is a rich stout showcasing aromas of dried fruits such as plums, figs and raisins, with notes of tobacco and oak. Tastes of dried fruits, liquorice, vanilla and bourbon.

Tasteful, thick. Does not go light. Really good dark one. Need more.

Rich yet gentle and complex notes of liquorice, oak and chocolate with dried fruits as well finishing with a vanilla and bourbon note. Lovely and not boozy at all despite the 12% ABV.

Nice deep dark taste of dried fruit. A bit of molasses aftertaste. Sweet and a bit sticky, but in a very pleasant way.
