Monk's Brew

Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Monk's Brew aka Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Very nice Belgian Dark Ale. Notes of plum and candied sugar. Not much hops but the malty goodness shines through.

Great head and legs. Dark fruits (currant? raspberries?) in the aftertaste. Boozy and rich. Solid.

2017. Malty, a lot of caramel, fig, and some dark bread. A bit of raw alcohol still. As it warms, less alcohol and more nuttiness and toffee develop. Great with Alpine cheese and Gouda, good with cheddar, less good with brie.
