Monk's Brew

Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Monk's Brew aka Monk’s Elixir is a heavy dark Belgian ale inspired by the Trappist monasteries of Rochefort and Westvleteren. The beer style, characterized by its high content of alcohol, distinguishes itself by its dominant yeast character, delicious malt background and balanced hop notes.

Smooth malty and sweet well brewed as expected but not really to my personal taste, that’s why beer is great so diverse

Big finale. Great beer. Complex and boozy, this a rich, nutty, sweet and drying beer that explains my slightly sore head this morning.

Rich, boozy sweet honey hints with a gentle autumnal nutty background. Incredibly moreish. Excellent.

Well, my ‘tache must be filtering all the alcohol from that because this is smooth and balanced as anything I’ve drunk. Sweet not overly boozy. This is, a dangerously drinkable beer.

Really caramelly, very sophisticated tasting. One for sipping and enjoying rather than day drinking! 😂

One sip and I felt like I was back in Belgium! Huge funky and malty flavours evoking notes of raisin, candied fruits, and Christmas pudding. Super soft, smooth, slick, sticky and sweet. The warming is slow and gradual, beautiful slow burner.

Delectable. Smooth and strong. Well balanced to not overwhelm but be strong enough to stand out.

Oh, my. Once again I've decided to simply sit and enjoy. If you know Mikkeller and Belgian Strong ales then I don't need to say anymore.

Huge sherry notes. Dark cherry, black forest gateau. Nan what have you done to this cake? Smooth body almost like a mild, fruity, sweet, celebratory. Surprisingly thin for such a high percentage beverage. Burnt caramel? K1

Write up compared it with Westvleteren but it’s miles off. Smooth strong dark quad at 10%. Boozy so doesn’t pull it off compared to others.
