French Toast Bastard

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Backwoods Bastard gets the 4-star breakfast treatment. Our bourbon barrel-aged Scotch Ale is introduced to maple syrup, cinnamon, and sweet vanilla for a decadent brunch-inspired sipper. Breakfast for dinner, anyone?

Amazing beer. Heavy flavors of cinnamon and vanilla overtake the bourbon flavor of backwoods bastard. I prefer the original, but this one is still delicious.

This is good, but overly maple dominant

French toast in a bottle! It's a bit much, to be honest, especially the first sip. And definitely seems sweeter than it needs to be. Still, it's fun and definitely evokes the name.

PS#06: Holy crap this was good! I’m often not a fan of maple in beer, but this was magnificent.

Another solid Founders barrel aged beer. However, the French toast is a little too roasty for my taste. My friends loved it!

Smells just like French toast and molasses. Nuts! OMG it’s so sweet and I think I’m drinking syrup and there are notes of licorice before the maple overwhelms you and you drown in a vat of artificial vanilla flavor ewwwww I might throw up

First impression was caramel and bourbon. Strong, sweet, and busy. All good flavors working together.

Blind tasting rated a 4 but had I known what this was, I likely would have rated it higher. :P I called it creme brule (and likely southern tier) but french toast works for me. Yum! Most interesting so far in our December beers.

Advent beer #6. I loved this one. Right out of the bottle I could smell a sweet, Carmel or butterscotch aroma. Loved the taste of cinnamon:). My favorite so far :)

This is a decent beer, and brings in some of the French Toast flavor, but I prefer the straight Backwoods Bastard. For a French Toast flavor I’d look at Roak’s French Toast Devil Dog or its BA big brother.

If drinking a bottle of straight maple syrup is to your liking, this one’s for you.

Strong maple scent. Very sweet. Seems these flavors would be better in a stout than a week heavy, but it works.

(4.23). Big , sweet vanilla on the nose. Some maple and wood in the sip. A little too sweet for me to bump this into the 4.5 range.

Thank you Dan M. for the beer share and thank you Carol R. for the glass. Awesome good friends! 🙂👍 Sweet maple 🍁 syrup boozy aroma. More going on with the taste. Barrel-aged and sweet. Tasty though. Sipper brew at 11.1% ABV & 50 IBU's.
