KBS Espresso (2020)

Stout - Imperial / Double Coffee

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

Strong bitter espresso. Boozy with underlying chocolate notes. Smooth and creamy on nitro.

Sweet coffee, some cream on top and it's an Irish coffee...

Really quite nice. Chewy chocolate that turns fudge sludge. For a shelfie its quite indulgent given the scale.

Smells like a coffee shop. There is a lot going on with this beer. Definitely tastes like bitter dark chocolate. Has a strong flavor of charred wood. I really enjoyed it.

Always makes me feel lethargic. Only beer I’ve ever found to do this.

It is espresso as a caffè viennese could be. It remembers me more a coffee flavour in a tiramisù than in a cup. Bourbon barrel was very well used, smooth pleasant decadent dessert brew. It means this brew alone could be a dessert treat

Just bottled on 10/15. Pretty boozy. It’s good, but I’ll let it sit awhile.

That is one intense coffee forward stout. Almost offensive. But I dig it! Better body on this than OG KBS.

Probably 4.35. Very good. I just wish the coffee wasn’t as bitter and the whole thing was a tad sweeter. Otherwise, really solid.

The nose is full on coffee... As far as the taste goes, there is so much coffee, the stout and the barrel age kind of fall off. I'm not saying it's not tasty... but it's full on coffee. I think there is better versions of KBS than this one.

Good espresso, but still harsh. Gonna throw a couple aside...6 months should do it some good.

Unbelievably resiny, strong burst of espresso notes. Low cream mouthfeel with a slight warm finish, probably because it’s 12%. Bottled 23 april 2020
