Backwoods Bastard (2017)

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate.

I love it, not sure how it’s different from other bourbon barrel-aged stouts I’ve had from Founders but still, this is where they excel. Wonder if they make good NEIPAs... probably not.

Big booze, big nice. Yum. A lighter version actually then some of the heavier hitters, but still beautiful.

Mmm aged barleywine-esque beer. This is drinking peak, tons of leather and prunes. Caramelized and treacle sugars, a nice rye bread thing lurking in the background. Smooth. Nice character. You can taste the hillbilly racist vibes, shout out to founders.

Caramel, dried fruits, vanilla and oak, with a healthy dose bourbon. Sweetness. Mellowed peat and hops, seriously going BW. 😎 Vintage 2017(.07.20)

Huhei. Best før 01.08.19? Neppe!

Tapping into the cellar for the #2017 which has toned considerably. Still getting the coffee, slight bourbon and boozyness but is toned considerably.

Noe oksidering.

onight I'm gonna do a comparison between 2016 & 2017 Backwards Bastard! Next up: THE WINNER, 2017! Creamier, smoother than the 2016, light dark fruit, slightly bitter on the tongue, vanilla, some smoky barrel char is present, heavy oak notes!
