Panther Cub (2021)

Porter - Other

A robust porter, Panther Cub is aged in the finest bourbon barrels available along with a kiss of maple syrup and vanilla extract. The aroma of maple and vanilla notes combine with a surprisingly deep character to make this rare creature one to gaze upon fondly. Don’t let it fool you, this kitty has claws.

Not what I remembered. Catch a lot of vanilla and maple, but not much barrel and kind of thin. Good overall, but was expecting more

A sweet porter. I'm not getting the barrel that was promised. Smooth and easy to drink. My daughter picked the glass and poured the beer.

Do not drink cold, flavors really come through after warming.

I suspect this is one of those "better on tap" porters

Sweet up front but finishes a little bitter. It was ok.

Lots of vanilla, not a ton of barrel. Just OK for Founders standards

Took a while for the flavors to come through. Had somewhat of an aftertaste that I didn’t love.

I've had a few more, it's still decent but I marked it down a little. It smells wonderful and initially it tastes okay, it has an odd aftertaste that is slightly bitter or medicinal as someone else said.

Initially a ton of vanilla, light maple syrup, light barrel, followed by resounding bitterness half caused by roasted malt and half caused by hops. medium body, light carb, bitter roasty light vanilla aftertaste. It's fine.

Vanilla on the nose, slightly sweet with a light bourbon finish. A little thin, but tasty.

Astringent. Vanilla overpowers, not getting the bourbon at all. Poor man’s CBS

A little bitter but great vanilla hit and a smooth silky maple roasty middle through the finish.

The vanilla extract really ruins this. Why didn’t they use actual vanilla bean?

The maple, vanilla, and bourbon are all very subtle; very sweet. The finish is sort of woodsy. Doesn’t do any one thing well, but the sum of its parts is solid.

Wasn’t expecting much but I think it still under performed my expectations. Wanted a more straightforward beer and maybe this is it, but I didn’t get any vanilla and very little maple. Not overly sweet which is nice.

Good, but the bitter aftertaste in a BA beer keeps it from being great
