Backwoods Bastard

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Expect lovely, warm smells of single malt scotch, oaky bourbon barrels, smoke, sweet caramel and roasted malts, a bit of earthy spice and a scintilla of dark fruit. It’s a kick-back sipper made to excite the palate. Distribution Note: Now available year-round beginning April of 2018.

Scotch, malt, nutty, sweetness. Smells so bad I don’t even want to drink it. Oh wow, tastes nothing like it smells. Don’t really like Scottish style ales, but this isn’t too bad.

Estupendo aroma de caramelo. El sabor no te lo esperas, no es fácil de beber pero en ello reside su gracia. Advierto que antes me había tomado un vermú 😬

Really a great beer from one of my favorite breweries. A bit of smoke with the bourbon notes brings out the slightest sweetness to go with a complex blend of flavors, wishing it came in a bigger bottle.

Mooi bier, de bourbon voegt veel toe aan zo'n Scotch wee/heavy. Verder niet heel bijzonder per se, maar wel erg lekker!

Phwoooar what a big boozy bastard this is.. the scotch ageing is very prominent, it doesn't say what it is on the bottle but it tastes like a barley wine almost, but untappd says a scotch ale. A scotch ale aged in scotch whisky barrels. Awesome!

Pulled a 3/20/18 bottle from the cellar to try. Now 3 years old still holding up well. Sweet and smooth on the taste buds followed by the taste of Scotch.

This is a great sipper, despite being 11% by volume and barrel-aged. It's neither bitter nor syrupy-sweet, just balanced and mature with a nice, dark-caramel color. Not a bastard, just your new BFF of ales.

If you like a Scotch Ale but want something... a little extra extra, this is your beer. I found it very strong with heavy caramel flavor. And that 11% kicks...
