Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

Very aromatic, this brew is surprisingly not hop strong. Smooth. Goes down real easy. Generous bourbon notes. Amazing at 17%!!!

Utopian influence is definitely there. Boozy and maltiness that you have come to expect from this brew, but like with a sweet subtlety (almost honey like). Really smooth considering the BA influence. Killer stuff!!

This is crazy! A bit like a cellar-aged 120 minute itself, slightly sweeter. Steve! Gotta try this one!

As if 120 Minute IPA didn’t have enough flavor and it needed to be aged in barrels used for one the strongest and most flavorful beers in existence. This beer is amazingly smooth, especially considering the 17% abv.

4.8 On draft! Just slightly better than in the bottle that I had a couple months ago. Best BA beer I’ve had for sure

Aw damn! Super heavy barrel flavor blocks out the IPA pine. So good.

The barrel aging does a great job mellowing the harshness of traditional 120.

Haven’t rated a beer this high in a long time. Rich, luxurious, complex, perfectly sweet, and well-balanced. Big, harmonious, delicious beer.

Malty. Dank hops. Pineapple. Touch of maple. Wood. All over the place in a good way. Pleasantly surprised.

At 17% it’s no joke, but I found it really enjoyable. It was definitely strong, but I didn’t think it was over powering or leave me with the burn of some high ABV beers. Honestly it reminded me of drinking an Old Fashioned. It was sweeter than expected.

Pours a strong amber with little to no head. Initial sip is beyond full bodied, with an intense and memorable complexity. Sweet and earthy, with a bitter sensational finish. An aroma of caramel and port, with flavors of dates, and pine sap.

Slightly hazy dark brown with a small bubbly head. Smells sweet and of alcohol. Taste is NUTS. This is a good wine not a beer. It’s balanced and sweet and tasty. Toasty. Mouthfeel is thin and there is an astringent finish. This is one of kind. Impressive.
