Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

Very smooth. Hops are fairly subdued. Lots of barrel character. One of my favorite labels I’ve seen in a while too.

I don’t even love Utopias, but this and WWS aged in Utopias are 2 of better beers I’ve had in years

4.35 more like a barrel aged Barleywine than an ipa, which I am all for.

Much better bottle, from a different 4-pack. I assume that the past bottle (or 4-pack) was infected.

Woah. Pretty sweet and boozy. Not heavy on the IPA front, but very unique.

I mean.......at this point just call it a barleywine. But holy shit that's delicious. Sweet but balanced, a little raisin and brown sugar. Looking forward to seeing how this ages.

Regular 120 Min IPA is better in my opinion. I like a good BA stout or IPA, but this one is just off.

Super-tart. No Utopias flavor. Seems too young or improperly stored. Only good for booze. Might make a good cocktail mix.

Make no mistake, it’s a barleywine, not an ipa. But it’s FANTASTIC

Holy sheetballs is this boozy. I respect the process to make this beer. But sweet Jesus. I never had a beer burn down my esophagus before (I added “Burnt” because my throat is charred)

Good grief. Intensely flavorful, boozy, rich and dessert like. Lots of barrel complexities swirl - oak, vanilla, tannins, rum raisin, brown sugar. Dense. Tough to drink much of - but this is quite tasty. Proceed with caution, but try if you can.

Nice barrel aged flavors, get a lot more barrel flavor than the 120. I think I may like regular 120 a little bit better.
