Olde School

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Not really my jam. Good for the style but the style is gross.

That’s a lot of dried fruit flavor. Getting a lot of maple too. Not bad. Just a bit too sweet for me. 15% ABV makes up for that, not that you taste it

Grape/plum, clove... very sake-like. Not much of a fan of barleywine style any more 😢

Was saving the bottle for a special occasion, all cellared away. After all, who wouldn’t want to inadvertently tear into a 15% barley wine on a school night? I don’t think barley wines, as a style, are my jam, figs and dates aside. Cheers, though!

Love the dates and fig notes. Heavy body. Malty. Low attenuation. Not hot for the alcohol level. No carbonation. Needed that to make the beer pop more on the nose and pallet.

EBF beer #9. Bottled on 1/18/17. Not the most exciting barleywine I’ve had...

Very strong, hints of sweet. Not what I was looking for but I can finish it. I kind of sense some fermented fruit with the sweetness.

I guess barley wine is medicinal, blech. Tastes like echinacea, not in a good way.

I had a visceral reaction to this beer. Harsh and boozy with a cheap cigar rubbed in dirt aftertaste. Actually made me shiver.
