Doublebock Frederiksdal Cherries Wenninger

Not sure why this gets such low ratings - it’s complex and tasty! The flavour reminds me of a cake my mum used to make (Donauwelle) which has cherries, crème patisserie, and chocolate. All those flavours were there, and nicely integrated. #4 on the paddle

Burst Wenninger

Refreshing in all ways: light and spritzy, mildly hoppy with mild but fresh pomelo citrus notes. Would be great as a pint when it’s 30°, but less suited to chilly Tallinn.

George Bourbon BA Wenninger

Finding solace amidst the chaos (of moving house). Tasty sweet bourbon oak and vanilla, though the coffee has faded a lot.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA Wenninger

Perfect to wind down after a day of packing boxes ahead of the move to another apartment. We do have a lot of stuff…

Beer Geek Breakfast (Mikkeller x Minoh) Wenninger

Roasty coffee galore. A little bit of sweetness and now that I know what anko is, red bean flavours. Pretty good coffee stout, all things considered.

Wake Up World Wide Stout Wenninger

Reasonably roasty stout with black coffee. Sadly the coffee is more “gas station” than “artisanal pour-over” and that detracts a bit from the experience.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA (2023) Wenninger

Love this: like a hoppy barley wine, with loads of pine resin and orange peel hops. Oak and a little lemon peel on the nose. Nicely layered and complex, and a lovely mouthfeel.

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA Wenninger

The nose is super complex: orange peel, piney hops but also a hint of lemon. Oak influences are quite mild but I guess provide some rounding of flavours and aromas. On the palate it’s both malty, sweet and bitter, and hides the alcohol very well. Yum yum

Just the One - Cascade Wenninger

Not much on the nose, maybe a little larch needles and a faint hint of lemon peel. Flavours are quite restrained and again lemony without being overly assertive.

Just the One Simcoe Wenninger

Very fruity on the nose, but I’m struggling to pin down which. Peaches? Mandarins? Quite a bit going on aroma and flavour-wise. Solidly hoppy finish that lingers. My favourite of the line-up.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) Wenninger

I wasn’t a big fan of this vintage about a year ago, and it’s even worse now. Very dry and somewhat bitter, like sucking on a barrel stave that’s been rolled in cocoa powder.

120 Minute Ipa (2022) Wenninger

A hoppy barley wine? A malty IIPA? This straddles categories but it’s blend of caramel malts and orange-peel hops is just wonderful and very tasty.

120 Minute Ipa (2022) Wenninger

Holy hell! A malty sweetness that’s quite a lot like a good barleywine, but with an intense piney hoppy and orange rind flavour. Both sweetness and bitterness are equally powerful and in balance, and both flavours linger for a long time.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa (2021) Wenninger

I like this a lot! Reminds me of Abraxas, but less sweet. Just the right amount of cinnamon, and not “hot”. Good vanilla and bourbon oak.

Rødgrød med Fløde Wenninger

Sugared strawberries on the nose, and melted vanilla ice cream with strawberries on the palate. Maybe the other berries bring some tartness but their flavour is a bit muted.

The Guide Wenninger

Not bad ultimately, but somehow it’s not thick or hazy enough for my definition of a NEIPA

Spontanquadrupelblueberry 2018 Wenninger

The first impression on the nose is overwhelmingly dry, salty, a little funky, and some berries. But the palate redeems the berry flavours, with loads of dark blueberries.

Resting Brew Face Wenninger

Very fruity, like overripe stone fruits. Heavy, thick mouthfeel, followed by strong hops. Happy with this! :-)

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) Wenninger

Maple syrup and coffee on the nose. When cold, the coffee dominates. As it warms, the maple sweetness comes to the fore. Very sweet without being lactose-laden, which is nice. But I’m glad I’m only stealing sips from Julie E. as it’s *sweet*

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020) Wenninger

It’s good, very good actually. But after the Holiday Weekend this feels like a step down. Coffee, malts, bourbon: it’s all there. But it doesn’t sparkle like (I felt) it used to.

KBS Espresso Wenninger

Tasty stuff: the usual KBS goodness with a very subtle but nice coffee note. Not at all vegetal, but a pleasant chocolate/coffee/bourbon combination.

Beer Geek Fudgesicle BA Rye Whiskey Wenninger

Chocolate paddle pop, with all of the requisite sweet chocolate milkiness. Toffee/caramel on the palate and rye whisky “spice” on the nose.

Black Buffalo (Barrel Aged Buffalo Trace) Wenninger

Intensely dense, dark, woody and fairly umami. A lot is going on here. It’s definitely an old beer, but also many-layered.

The Idaho 7 IPA Wenninger

Fruity and juicy, with some melony citrus? Hard to pin down, but refreshing, interesting, and tasty. Nice!

KBS Wenninger

Mostly oatmeal and coffee. No real sign of bourbon here, which is a tad disappointing.
