Yup, it’s a beer. Some interesting grassy and dank notes. Oxidation? 60

Continues to be excellent. Perfectly crisp, tart, and funky. Acidity doesn’t kill you. Fruit is supportive and doesn’t get in the way of the age and yeast. Always a treat. 98 for the style

2023. Deep and rich cherry notes. Acid is moderate minus. Good carb. Nicely balanced and complex with the cherry still playing a key role. 92

Lemon, funk, leather, and grass. Light herbal bitterness. 90

Fantastic sour. A pleasure to have again. A perfect balance between tart and funk with just the right amount of carb. Smooth! Such a bummer it’s so elusive! 97

Draft. Very complex Brett character. Earthy, horse blanket, very mild/low tartness, ample vinous grape notes. Honestly a bit more acid would help this; right on that edge. 91

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019) Smeed
So funny that I use to fight and call around to just get a single 12oz bottle of this. Now I’m buying it on clearance and has been sitting on the shelf for 4 years. Game has changed, but this still remains a decent and consistent shelf option 78

Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA Smeed
Thick, syrupy barleywine with a slap of hops, booze, and barrel. The IPA backbone prevents any overage of sweetness and dries the palate out on the finish. Sweet toffee merges with brandy finishing with a mild acidic pine bitterness and more booze.Unique! 90

It’s been years since I had this— back when this was the “east coast” IPA style. Malty, grapefruit pith, and pine. Lots of sweet malts, almost American barleywine-ish. Tastes old to me; like when you let an IPA sit for too long and the hops drop off. 72

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Smeed
Light notes of maple, tons of coffee, and overall nice dessert-like feel. Medium minus feel. Sweet up front that gets cut on the finish due to bourbon barrels. An enjoyable variant to the original! 84

A beer defined by wood and smoke. Mildly sweet, but heavy on the tobacco, oak, and bourbon. A light herbal bitterness. Medium-thinner body. Different change of pace from all of the sweet BA beers on the market. 83

Aged 2 years in the cellar. Booze has settled down nicely. Heavily malt forward, toffee sweetness, and a little dried dark fruit character- mostly figs, but also some raisins. Nice alternative to all the big stouts. Would buy again—not at full price tho89

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) Smeed
Really flavorful and hits the adjuncts listed beautifully. Fudgy chocolate and coffee. Sweet and a little boozy. Really enjoyable! Medium body. If it was thicker, it would be hard to drink much of, but actually a pretty well rounded beer. I’m impressed!92
