KBS Spicy Chocolate

Decent dark chocolate nose, if any spiciness, just a faint whiff. Moderately thick body, lighter carbonation. Nice rich chocolate cake finish, but again, just a kiss of anything spicy. But wait… super late some pepper bites the tongue! It’s pretty ok.

Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (Mothership Series)

Rich bourbon barrel nose, b/w caramel malt & nuttiness w/ a hint of chocolate. Silky full body, light carbonation. Roasted malt bitterness on the finish, mildly boozy, w/ notes of coffee & chocolate. Not overwhelming, but a solid BA stout.

A lethally smooth combo of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, & walnuts. Delightful!

Rübæus

How have I not checked this in since 2016? A great light fruit beer, nice raspberry tartness without being overly sweet. A classic.

Belgian Twist

Sweet, smooth, agave-like nose. Moderate, semi-viscous body, medium carbonation. Pretty standard Belgian Tripel finish, hint of black & white pepper, not overly sweet.

Slightly Mighty

Pretty much as expected: a light-bodied IPA w/ low-to-moderate perceived bitterness, & faint citrus/earthy hop notes. Better than Mic Ultra, that’s for sure!

Frootwood (2021)

Rich, woody BBA notes on the nose, underpinned w/ tart cherry. No real maple syrup after 7 months on the nose, but it is present in silky spades on the tongue, which mutes the barrel & cherry notes but still leaves this beer a sublime sipper. More please!

Blushing Padre

Yup, this is Blushing Monk w/ a touch of oaky barrel roundness finishing it off. Delightful!

French Toast Bastard

Still arguably the best maple-y beer out there.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2017)

Aged 4+ years. Huge, full tan foam. Nice chocolatey-coffee notes, but it’s lacking maple presence. Tiny bit of oxidation. Still a glorious BA stout.

Solid Gold

A nicely hopped lager, not overpowering but hops very present. Light but super flavorful for 4.4%.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2015)

6 years old. Wet papery notes on the nose, along w/ a hint of dark stone fruit/sherry. Still a fairly thick & creamy body, light carbonation. Finish has a good hit of roasty chocolate, tending to slightly bitter late. Not bad for an old geezer of a beer.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge

Still just all fudge, no maple, sadly. Tons of rich dark chocolate, slightly boozy. But where the heck is the maple?

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter

Hint of oaky bourbon on the nose, faint cherry & vanilla. Fairly thick body, moderate carbonation. Lots of caramel on the finish, b/w vanilla & maraschino cherry. A true Old Fashioned in a beer. Delightful!

Blueberry Braggot

Red-tinted beige foam, full. Fruity blueberry nose. Medium body & carbonation. Tart blueberry finish, hint of astringency maybe, but still mostly pleasant.
