Vigneronne (2023) Shanafelt

Probably the best of the day for me and a perennial favorite of mine. Always a treat to try this. Exceptional! #ZwanzeDay2024

Love their Kriek. Not super tart or in your face. Natural and drinkable. #ZwanzeDay2024

Kriek 100% Lambic Bio Shanafelt

I love this beer. Sometimes you can forgo all the fluff and limited editions and come back to the basics.

Piacere Shanafelt

Lies between a St. Lamvinus and Kriek, though more consistent with the former, though not as full bodied and rich. Cherry is nicely balanced but not the focus of the beer. Great wine notes. And what a Cantillon list!! Makes up for our Ryder Cup effort.

Fou' Foune (2018) Shanafelt

Still my favorite lambic. Leap at the opportunity to try this. Stone fruit that perfectly balanced the acidity from the lambic. #BottleConditioned

Iris (2013) Shanafelt

Tea, barnyard funk, and a woodiness to it. Very unique, crazy how Iris holds up and how much variation there is as it evolves. #BottleConditioned

50 Degrees N - 4 Degrees E (2020) (Cognac) Shanafelt

This is a top lambic. The cognac barrel really sets this apart, giving a chocolate and vanilla character. Light and rich at the same time, very complex. #BottleConditioned

Lou Pepe Kriek (2017) Shanafelt

Absolutely incredible. Rich, cherry jam. Somewhat less tart than other cherry lambics, more full bodied. Quite the whale here. Leaping into a top 5 beer for me. #BottleConditioned

Fou’ Foune (2021) Shanafelt

Had to bust this out to celebrate the end of cardiology fellowship. Authentic stone fruit that becomes more prominent as it breathes. Perfect amount of acidity. This is the peak of Cantillon for me and remains my top sour (and number 2 overall beer).

Iris (2004) Shanafelt

A 2004 Iris!? Are you kidding me?! Obviously couldn’t pass up the opportunity to try this. A lot of funk to this. Floral. Botanical. Can’t believe how well this held up…but should I really be surprised?

Zwanze 2022 - Poivre de Gorilles Shanafelt

The most unique pour of the day. The black pepper provides a spicy aroma and the black pepper lingers through the entire finish. Just a bit of funk. I honestly loved this. So different than anything I’ve ever had and gives new meaning to a “peppery” beer

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge Shanafelt

Wow, pure chocolate fudge on the nose. One of the best smelling beers I’ve ever had. This was really a hidden gem, especially after being a bit disappointed by my last CBS. The flavor on this is next level
