North Country breakfast. Maple infused, and cinnamon and vanilla, blended into the Bastard double scotch ale. Might be a little early in the season; just means I’ll have to buy more.

90 Minute Imperial IPA (2023) J
Oct ‘23 bottleneck date. Strong abv, malty ipa, pleasantly sweet. When you want an ipa and you only have time for one.

BB Feb ‘23, fresh bottle. Better than I recall from some years ago. Peppery clove spice, and less prominent cinnamon. Almost a Winter Wheat.

Big abv. Big ipa. So it’s a giant. The oat and wheat malt gives it a different aspect and mouthfeel.

I like hazelnut coffee, so KBS got me. Roasty, toasty, heavy duty. Most suitable in the fall, but winter, spring and summer work too. Smooth sweet vanilla, maybe mostly from the bourbon barrel. A bit boozy.

Strong vanilla notes up front. Strong abv is smoothed over by the barrel notes. No noticeable smokiness, but overall delicious.

The nutty flavor notes led me to the Nutella secret recipe. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, lactose sugar, maybe some wood chips, and voilà. Velvet.

This is a ‚strong’ beer done exactly right. Smooth and mellow, earthy malty, moderate piney hops, slightly sweet. A classic.

Everyone says it’s like a margarita. True. Strong but not boozy. And all that agave makes it taste like a good Polish mead. This one with a little lime splash.

All the oats make it smooth. And it has a soft mouthfeel. A fairly strong abv sneaks up through that. I like it quite a bit. But then I like all oat based beers.

So, Sam Adams didn’t do an Old Fezziwig this year. This 2019 spiced autumn/winter, then, does nicely.

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020) J
I’m cheating and checking this beer in again. It’s that good. You can definitely taste the maple, the fudge, and your standard stout flavours, all smoothly blended.

Aging this three years improved it to peak quality. All the usual stout goodness plus maple. The high abv is smoothly blended in.

KBS must mean Koffee Bomb Stout. ;) Best weather day in a long time. Delicious Founder’s brew with a pub lunch. What could be better?
