Cocoa/butterscotch/vanilla pastry stout. A style I’m beginning to find “too easy”, but ofc Mikaeller masters it. Bourbon BA, woody and mellow.

Goes with oranges. A not so common mix, and it’s a pity because it’s nice! Sourness is mild (as it is in goses), saltiness is low, probably one sweetening the other. A nice balanced low-sour indeed!

A true piney west coast, old school style. With a hint of remaining hazyness, true hoppy pleasure.

Beer Geek Fudgesicle BA Bourbon
We shared this between 4, as a desert after an improvised evening. It is exactly as it is meant to be: a cocoa-vanilla powerful RIS pairing wonderfully with Belgian chocolate. Maturation in bourbon ex-cask gives an additional vanilla. Just alright.

Bombish BA IS. Thick as oil, a true pleasure. At first sip, pairing with chocolate cake from Yasushi Sasaki, I was going to rate 5. But after a few, it appears slightly off balance, leaning too much toward sweetness. Still excellent. Expensive as hell.

Spelt gives this otherwise by-the-book RIS a richer body, yet managing to avoid too much thickness. Coffee hints are delicate. When you’re getting too many pastry stuff, this is exactly what you need if you want a true RIS. Oh, and also: expensive!

Oatmeal stout with coffee. Quite light in body and mouth compared to other Mikkeler products from the series. Some lingering hoppiness and nice velvet tongue. Still nice pairing with chocolate.

Veeery sweet Cantillon in wines. Expected more tartness from them but the change is welcome ;)

Kinda rare Cantillon edition barreled on Vin de Paille wine. Wonderfully balanced. 275 bottles produced.

Lambic mixed with Poulsard pomace. This smells (and tastes) like a natural wine, with a hint of gueuze acidity. Wonderful.

Italian grapes, really nice complex addition. Oxygenise it a bit before tasting to allow openings, like wine ;)

Fly (blue) honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea) lambic. Tart, with some fruitiness. Not too complex

Way better than the memory I have from the 2017. Rhubarb acidity gives it a candy character, nice pairing with cheesy platter.

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2021)
This year is ... sparkling! Excellent blend as usual, here of course tasted way too young but we were too curious. « Boon taste » is dominant, and enjoyable. Overall is actually quite sweet, might suit Geuze beginners. Even a bit flowery.

Bot. 16/10/2017, aged in cellar since. Smoothed by age, but moderately. Still tart, with some apple cider hints behind. Carbonation held nicely, wonderful body. Could have aged more I guess ;)

Alcohol version of the Riesling juiiicy stuff from Mikkeler. Even better so, a nice NEIPA with litteral juice (2% grape). Give a nice touch and balanced even more. Mellow.

Barley/wheat/sauer malts, in a window ale for the Idaho 7 hops. Corpulent for a 4.5%, very refreshing with a great drinkability potential. Subtle sourness balances the (dry) hoppiness, and this flows nicely. Nice not-too-complex Mikkeler and well made!

The recipe of these low alc beers from Mikkeler seem to be the same, and they switch the final component. This time yuzu, which hinders the hoppiness a bit, and turns it into a semi sour ale. Well, in the end, it rox. Best soft drink ever! ;)

Another one of those low-alcohol achievements by Mikkeler. This is sumptuous for a low-alc beer. Riesling grape juice is a nice addition. Took it at breakfast ;)

[Retro-check from yesterday] Wonderfully balanced stout, not too strong. Hint of chocolate, subtle bitterness, and round and powerful finish. Another masterpiece in the Mikkeler Beer Geek series, and the second revelation of Wanderlust 2020!

My label is different, but the taste is there. Hugely perfectly chocolatey stout that you gotta marry with chocolate chunks and biscuits. Great great Mikkeller, and for years aged in cellar. Perfection.
