French Toast Bastard

Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Backwoods Bastard gets the 4-star breakfast treatment. Our bourbon barrel-aged Scotch Ale is introduced to maple syrup, cinnamon, and sweet vanilla for a decadent brunch-inspired sipper. Breakfast for dinner, anyone?

I could pour this on my pancakes. Dominating maple flavor makes this sucker taste like bourbon syrup.

Smooth for 11% and great flavor but it’s lacking something I can’t put my finger on….

Man, this is such a good beer. It really does taste so much like French toast. Buttery somehow and maple syrupy. So creamy too.

A masterclass on using cinnamon. Just enough. Decent chance I buy another 4 pack of these in a week 😛

I can’t think of a better beer to usher in the cold weather in Houston. Warming, oakey, malty, and French toast to a tee. The flavors are wonderfully balanced, and so comforting in the 40 degree chill. 🥃🧇🥞

Nailed the french toast flavor. Very maply at first, more tolerable later. Cinnamon for sure! Vanilla and barrel flavors are more subtle. Definitely an interesting one-off, but I don't think I will buy it again.

Tried this last night. An odd burnt coffee taste just took over the other flavors. Got a little better as the beer warmed, but still wouldn't try it again.

Monday brunch with homegrown eggs and turkey sausage with Canaan whiskey barrel maple syrup, whole grain bread and turkey bacon. This beer pairs beautifully with the butter drenched French toast! I probably would not like this as much on its own.

Liquid french toast with just a hint of Scotch Ale in the finish...only because I know it's there. Pushes my limits for what I want in a beer, but still tasty. Splitting a bottle is probably ideal for me.

Wow, was seriously impressed with how much the syrup and vanilla come through on this! Really well balanced with the sweetness. Plan on buying some backup right away!
