[canned on 03.07.24] Meh, look. Inviting, bright nose. Flavor profile is pretty generalist (citrus, pithy, tropical hints). Dry-ish finish despite being pretty juicy. Damned refreshing; drinks like a session. My preference is a little tastier and heavier.

[bottled 09.25.23] So much citrus peel, woodiness, and earthiness, it's almost a different beer.....almost😉. Still a good malt/hop balance and a throwback favorite despite its age.

[bottled 09.25.23] I miss the malty/hoppy IPA's that were already starting to fade away when I returned to beer in 2017ish, but were still regularly available. Glad this one still is. Bottled last September, but just the slightest fall-off. 😋😋

[bottled 07.24.23] Despite a few months in the fridge, still a marked deficiency in barrel character (a little in the nose and lesser still in the flavor). Still a good beer, but a shadow of former Bastards😢

[bottled 07.24.23]First 2023 iteration. The Bastard is normally my trail beer; nothing like a 11% scotch ale when summiting. Occasionally I consider it ok to sip at home. More toffee, roasty notes this year and less barrel-aged character(a disappointment)

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2018) T
[bottled 10-02-2018] [from the cellar]Last of the CBS 750's, thankfully. This bottle was less offensive than the last. Very chocolatey, far less cardboardy, an odd alcohol flavor, very little depth or other notes. CBS was best consumed in that 12mo window

[bottled 06-29-2023] Rich, sweet, autumnal gourdness. The epitome of "imperial" yams.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2018) T
[bottled 10-02-2018] [from the cellar]Another forgotten bottle past it's prime. Surprisingly nice head, almost nothing on the nose (cocoa and alcohol). Plenty of boozy heat, some chocolate, a vanilla-ish something and.... Discovered another bottle, too😑

[from the cellar] [bottled 09.30.19 0214 6] Last of The Bastards... 4 year old rating. This one fell off a bit.

Canadian Breakfast Stout (CBS) (2019) T
[bottled on: 10.03.19 1058 6]In the process of emptying the cellar. No duds so far...and this certainly is not😋. Surprisingly, the coffee held up pretty well. Still some deep, dark chocolate. Tiny bit of bourbon. NO maple. It probably peaked in 2020...

[bottled 02.14.22] Sippin' with The Bastard...Uber-smooth and lots of toffee.

Mildly sweet, caramelly, bready malt and a nice toasty bitter finish. Always a favorite.

[Best by 09-2023] Not once did my palate say 'hey, mandarin!' or 'hey, mango!', though my nose detected something...a whiff...of 'tangeriney'. It IS bright, citrusy, juicy, refreshing. A tiny bit of underlying bread. Decent carb bite bumps it another 0.1

Couldn't resist this any longer (breakfast for dinner INDEED!😋). Nose like a plate of french toast. The added cinnamon, vanilla, and maple truly amplify and do not overwhelm. That's a nice feat. Smoooooth, not overly sweet, and utterly enjoyable.

Taste profile quick-hitter (element flashes on the palate, then...poof!). Malty, bready, fruity base with elements of toffee, cherry, plum swirled together in a soft tanginess. NICE!

Sometimes... ....occasionally... .........rarely, the best place to enjoy a Backwoods Bastard is the cozy, comfortable.....kitchen???? SO GOOD!

It IS better this year; more "balanced" in the realm of punkin'/spiced/autumnal offerings; cinnamon is just right. Nice to taste this second 2022 PA...first one [08-10-22] had the covid handicap

Märzen splashed with bourbon...how dare you suggest that's a bad thing....

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter T
[bottled 06-09-2022] Taste and smell slowly returning. No surprise bourbon notes would be one of the first to return.

Occasionally, rarely, the Bastard can be enjoyed...at home (gasp😲)...

A more experienced palate and a better ride this time. Still a little cough-syrupy, but this one was a lot smoother and even more complex because of it (1st experience might have been an older or heat damgaed beer). Got to get one for aging.

No skunk, smooth, and finishes clean (almost; sweetness clings to the palate just a tad too long). Still, "corn sweet" and not a lot of hop presence. In any case, IT'S NOT A HEINEKEN!!! For what it's worth: The label plainly says GROLSCH premium PILSNER.

Inconceivably delicious! Liquid fudge brownie, no doubt. Rich chocolate, cocoa and an undeniable "cakeiness" up front. But decidedly NOT too sweet. Which allows for some decadent subtleties to round out the profile. Scarcely credible, indisputable quality
