KBS Espresso (2019)

Stout - Imperial / Double Coffee

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout

Gives little on the nose, but plenty of coffee resting on top of the usual bourbon, alcohol warmth and smooth character of the KBS. Nice twist on the original, if you like your coffee. Sweetness from the bourbon balanced well with the bitter coffee.

Bottled 11/13/19 for 2020 release. Watching Red Dragon. Edward Norton is great. Beer is typical founders stout. Just trying to clear room for better options.

Bottled 11/14/2019. Still loaded with espresso coffee flavor. Mild barrel, somewhat thin when cold. Warming increases the barrel and perceived thickness. Very good.

Aroma is suffering. Some acidity coming forth. Another case made for drinking fresh. Not the beer’s fault.

Brew Day! Great body. Coffee forward, with appropriate chocolate support. Has a bitterness that's from hops or just the alcohol peeking in.

could just as well have gone all in on this one. it’s really the perfect nightcap and I’m not even a bourbon fan. so wb.. just enough boozy sweetness to that espresso base. out on a limb perhaps but calling this my Founders-favorite.

10 months of age. Delicious. The bourbons flavors remain but the harsh alcohol is gone leaving nice chocolate coffee bitterness and some nice toffee/espresso at the end as it warmed.
