Curmudgeon's Better Half

Old Ale

Curmudgeon is an old ale brewed with molasses and aged on oak; it becomes Better Half after aging—for 254 days—in bourbon barrels that have more recently been aging Michigan maple syrup. As a result, Curmudgeon’s Better Half is a bit sweeter than her miserly counterpart.

Great to have all that alcohol in a 12.7 brew, but it is a bit too sweet for my taste.

Good “old ale” flavor, but a bit sweet and syrupy.

2018 vintage. Vinøs og sød. Barleywine’ish. Lidt for meget, grænsende til kvalm

Old ales aren't really my thing but this one wasn't bad. Slightly sweet, and the molasses and barrel aging creates an interesting dynamic.

Bottle from 2011. It was probably great back in the day but seems so ordinary and thin now.

Bourbon barrel ale can’t compete with a bourbon barrel stout. The ale leaves an aftertaste. But, the 12.7 ALC makes in worth the $. 😂

Good. easy sweetness and mellowness from aging are pretty nice. I guess I wish it was “fonkier” or had some bite but it just ain’t that type of beer
