Oxidized as fuuuuuuck. It’s the same color as my outside table lmao. Still got that musky metallic character it had fresh. Founders really never did recover from all that racist shit, did they?

This beer really is undeniable. I think my fascination with it will quickly run its course but the newfound appreciation for this classic will undoubtedly remain.

Approaching the year mark on this, my first Rose de Gambrinus purchased directly from Cantillon. Still well within the peak enjoyability window. What I would give to be so flush with lambic to drink it all the time…

My affinity for Charleston Nano’s fresh hop beer and its likening to this old head staple inspired me to revisit. I apparently have changed, because this beer actually fucking rules. I’ve been a fool.

Sliding under the wire for the first 1/20 day I’ve participated in. Cracking this old 2017 chestnut. I thought time was supposed to transform this into a barleywine. 7 years of careful aging hasn’t done shit but makes this a slightly less awful QIPA.

Let’s gooooo. Another Barker dinner is under way and we are being regaled with stories of Africa over lambic.

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend 2011 Fury
Doing a side by side with the 2022. Difficult to parse what to attribute to age versus the differences in the blends’ constituents, but this one is quite flat and tamed. The acidic edge is all but gone. Some of the charm was worn off with the hard edges.

HORAL's Oude Geuze Mega Blend (2022) Fury
Side by side with the 11 (see check-in). Dank, musky hop aroma wafts from the glass and doesn’t quite translate to the sip. Overall this is much more vibrant and just as easy to drink. I also have suspicions that this blend was elevated by new additions.

Heavily citrusy, ultra funky/phenolic aroma. It’s been many years since I’ve had an Iris, and I’ve always had it fresh. 5 years old is pretty nice.

Cabernet adjacent, but not as tannic and with a smidge less body. The lack of carbonation really suits this and enhances the experience.

Packed with orange zest, the underlying fermentation really pulls everything down to earth. This is excessively pleasant.

Oh wow. This is a juicy boi. The quality of my notes is being sacrificed to the quality of conversation.

Really splits the difference between the best parts of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay rounded out with a refreshing acidity and soft sourness. The nose has subtle wisps of smoke.

Aromatic as hell, marrying fruity and floral tones with funk and tannins. Finishes a bit sweet and perfume-ey.

We’re accumulating friends! The UK via Vancouver acquaintance we made last night at Moeder joined us with our new Dublin friend who courted us to share bottles. Beer is always better with people.

Dry, tart cherry, tannins, black tea. Great expression of San Giovese.

Tyrnilambic Baie D'Argousier (2022) Fury
Pleasantly dry, punchy, and bright. Not very familiar with sea buckthorn, but I’m too awash in the splendor of this place and this beer to parse these things anyhow.

This vintage is an outright transformative experience. Softened by time, mild perceived acidity perfectly compliments hard cheese rind and faintly buttery rustic farmhouse notes moving to a lingering and satisfying bitterness that prefaces the next sip.

Cuvée Moeder Lambic (Kriek) Fury
Moules-frites devoured, piss boy pilgrimage complete, La Grand-Place marveled at: time to really get after it. This is an otherworldly example of the jammy side of Cantillon. You could spread this across a croissant. Hardest 5.

Herbaceous juniper accentuates sleekly bitter mass market IPA. I can get behind this.

Post-garage work beers officially commence. Something about the intersection between the caramel malty notes and Belgian yeast character is presenting as cotton candy and root beer to me. Lots of candi sugar.

Tastes like I’m not allowed to use the good printer. This is firmly in Founders’ tradition of imperial-izing and barrel aging styles that don’t want or need that treatment. Fusel, cloying, and somehow thin.

Kriek Mariage Parfait (2011) Fury
Having some anniversary lambic with Cassidy F. Happy Anniversary, babe!!! 🥰🥰

Really reminiscent of Emergen-C and, to a lesser extent, Tang. I like both of those things.

I don’t know how every vintage is perfect, but they are.

Nice, funky aroma. The grape profile, with which I am not familiar, is closer to grape juice than wine. Sweet and complex, moderately sour.

I haven’t had a haskap beer since Anchorage. Dry, quite sour, with a pervading bright and sweet berry character. Amazing.

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa Fury
Very churro-like, but also some nestle morsels in there.

Geuze Mariage Parfait (2016) Fury
Simple and elegant lambic. Not a lot to dissect, but plenty to enjoy.

Celebrating the next chapter of my life with the best beer, bourbon, and friends tonight. I wish everyone important to me could be here right now. I got a job offer today for something I never thought I’d have a shot at. Everything is perfect tonight.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2018) Fury
Phasing out my KBS verticals because honestly...I have access to better stouts from breweries I feel better supporting. This beer isn’t half as good as their regular imperial stout both fresh and with 2+ years of careful aging. I’ll remember it as it was.

Ashy marshmallow, faintly smoky chocolate brings the campfire to mind but I wouldn’t say anything about this is amplified.

Nelson Sauvin Brut Dry Hopped! Fury
Dry, funky, floral brett with an omnipresent caramel candy aroma and flavor that wheels its way back to farmhouse dryness.
