Roasted malts pull the profile of this beer far away from a traditional barleywine. Scotch ale and black ale notes. The beer is good but in the style it's a pass for me.

Black IPA! Super west coast hoppy rich medium dry balanced canât get past the hop bitterness

Boozy and bitter (maybe too bitter, like me). Not much roastiness.

High hopes for a good barelywine...but tastes too much like an IPA. : - (

Malty. Hoppy. Sweet. Bitter. Piney. Citrusy. Tastes much more like an IPA than a BW. It would be a nice IPA. Itâs not a nice BW.

Mix and match night at my house... I think I would have liked this one better if I hadnât paired it with works pizza topped red pepper flakes. It just doesnât like the heat.

Pleasantly unsweet compared to many barleywines. Lots of malt and bitter notes. I almost get oaky barrel notes.

Is okay. Not what I consider a Barleywine, but they are the beer experts.

An edge of unique bitterness to it that thankfully overrides the cloyingly sweet gagginess which ruins most barleywines for me!

Caramel, malty, dark... but too hoppy for me. Wish it had a lot more brown sugar or caramel, or maybe a maple barrel aged version.

Full and heavy doesnât match the flavor. Would rather a lighter hopped malty ale

Starts out well, malty sweet caramel, but hops are way overdone. While American style calls for more bitter hops than English variety, this finishes with harsh aftertaste that lingers like an unwelcome guest whoâs overstayed. Cellar (1 year?) to mellow.

Not bad but I would drink one of my 3.25 rated beers over this one

A lot of flavor going on it's a sipper but that's what I wanted right now

Not bad, just kind of lackluster for what I expect out of a good barleywine. Not as much going on as I hoped there would be

The initial aroma reminded me of the original version of nemesis. That beer was my favorite founders of all time. Strong flavor sweet thick. This doesn't have the mouthfeel, body, sweetness that i remember. More hoppy and not very sweet. Was hoping...

Definitely flavorful. A little too bitter for my taste.

Not bad just a bit too hoppy for me. Didn't read the label close enough

This stuff is really bitter. I actually poured some Maraschino Cherry juice into it to take some of the bitter off. I assume I will be kicked off this platform for doing that, so⊠nice knowing you all.

I love most Founders stuff( stouts, Barleywine a and scotch ales especially) but man this beer has an identity crisis . They call it a Barleywine but Iâm getting none of the profiles I would recognize as one. Sorry not feeling this one at all.

A balanced amount of hopps? Didnât know beer companies did that nowadays lol

A bit too harsh on the back end for some reason. It lacks that malty ease that makes barleywines drinkable.

Gonna have to try this one again. I was drinking it outside on hottest day of the year and it really didnât go well with the heat.

Thick, sweet, and malty with a strong alcohol finish. Honestly, not for me. 11.2% ABV.

Malty up front that slides through a đ« chocolate note and ends with an ever so slight boozy ending.
