Historical Beer - Burton Ale

An oak-aged, gentle giant. Two "threads," or batches, of beer — an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA — are brewed and, after separate fermentation in stainless tanks, are transferred and blended together in large oak tanks.

I found a 4 pack a year ago and one survived this long. Tonight the lone survivor has met it's match. It aged extremely well and I can only hope that they make it again. I love this beer!

It smells both like wood and the bright freshness of hops with just a little bread water in the background. After a whiskey taste you get bright hops and bitterness. The mouthfeel is very light with just a little fizz. Its finish is bitterness and booze.

Whoa!! This was not at all what I imagined! It's a dirty pour, with a lot of sediment. I definitely get more of an Old Ale vibe than IPA. I get a strong herbal, blood orange, grapefruit taste, and I FEEL the booze more than taste it!! Unique!!!
