Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

DAMN!!! The barrel aging mellowed the harshness of the original 120 while adding a hint of sweetness…but it still has a kick. Recap: the barrel aging mellowed the harsh but did not harsh the mellow.

Damn! Big barrel nose, taste is boozy and hoppy. So good. The problem with a 17% IPA is that I can't let it warm.

Not what I was expecting at all. Very little hops and mostly tasted caramel/figs. Very good beer but not sure if I can handle many of them at 17% abv

The taste follows the nose with very well balanced Utopia barrels, citrus and hop flavors. Alcohol aftertaste burns to sweet and burn.

With my brother Adam Extreme Baker.1st of many celebrating his 53rd bday. Seemed like a barley wine to me with the sweetness of the 120 and barrel aging..Its a must try..Hop Scholar Spring TX

Way more boozy than I thought. Much stronger than reg 120 no mellowing it out. Mine was warmed up some before drinking so prob why. Still fantastic!

Definitely has that smooth barrel taste that’s rich and almost a little sweet like vanilla. You can barely make out the hop on the backend. Tasted about a month after bottling.

Has the nose of the utopias that was similar to the WWS iteration. Sweet Carmel and fig with the normal 120 flavors. Unreal!

well, i was hoping for more very drinkable... smooth for 17% a.b.v , but at $9/ bottle, i expected more. i recommend it, but doubt I'll buy a 2nd 4pack.

Easily one of my favorites. Taste a lot more like a barrel aged barley wine.

Confused taste buds- is it a beer or a distilled spirit? It’s very tasty and very barley wine like. Thanks for sharing Jerry!

What a malty nightmare. This is crossing into all sorts of mead/barley wine territory, does not feel right to call it a beer. Honey is nice but the finish is horrendous. Does not belong in IPA class at all, process does not equal finish.

I dog it. It's a little rummy, but starts out porter-like, followed by sherry, bourbon, raisins, dates and a soft hop finish.

What can I say, this beer takes the legend even further. So many flavors come together. It’s another case of super-hopped, but ends up with the sweetness of a Barleywine. I need to find more of this. Cheers!
