Utopias Barrel-Aged 120 Minute IPA

IPA - American

The Holy Grail for hopheads, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped with a copious amount of high-alpha American hops throughout the boil and whirlpool, aged in Sam Adams Utopias barrels for a full twelve months, and then abundantly dry-hopped.

Pretty much a barleywine. Better than the regular 120 minute

Barrel aging smooths out the 120 minute into a very approachable and deceptively good beer. Dangerously good.

Have had the Utopia world wide stout and like the 120 just as much obviously different styles and some booziness :) lots of different smells and tastes to sift through

Plenty of booze to follow all of the barrel goodness. For this being 17% there is plenty of balance running through this beer.

Damn bro! This is a DIPA but it's basically a sweet barleywine.

Tons of raisin and prune. Sweet. Not a ton of hop profile. Very reminiscent of a barleywine.

I don’t even know what to rate something like this these days. I’ve tried Utopias once from a Tupperware container…I’ve had 120 a plethora of times. Nose is mildly hoppy. Back end reminds me of bourbon. Which Utopias basically is bourbon. Happy to try it.

First sip was boozy, manageable after that. Definitely does not taste like an IPA, more like a boozy barleywine. Now that I've had one fresh, looking forward to see how it changes with age.

Surprisingly mellow for the ABV. Has a strong hop character that counters the sweetness. Finishes with some cognac.

Barrel aged IPA. Eigentlich sträubt sich alles in mir dagegen, aber es muss probiert werden: Rosinen, Pflaume, süße, marmelade, fruchtig, karamellig, leicht alkoholisch. Irgendwie gut.

May the fourth be with you. May need a little time in the cellar to become a Jedi.

Like a barrel aged American barleywine. Bitter resin, caramel, and dark fruits.

Honestly reminds me more of Raison d'Extra than regular 120 with all the dark fruit and candy notes. That's not a bad thing at all for me though.

With my brother Adam Extreme Baker.1st of many celebrating his 53rd bday. Seemed like a barley wine to me with the sweetness of the 120 and barrel aging..Its a must try..Hop Scholar Spring TX
