Olde School

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Cellared 2007 vintage. Dried fruit, very sweet, strong alcohol warmth that lasts. Slight earthy bitterness that lingers. Some toffee.

Bottle from 2016. A bit flat, but very intense notes of molasses and a bit bitter final notes.

It was not 2’ under but was saved for more than two years. Appreciated on a Delaware tour day.

Got a bottle from 2012. Tastes straight up like liquid raspberry panda licorice (wheat based licorice from natural foods stores). Pretty great. I like barley wines for sure. If you’re going to go malty you might as well go all the way. BA EBF2021.

2013 bottle from BA Virtual Beer Fest shipment. Pours dark brown, nose with lots of raisins. Smooth, lots of raisin, fig, malt on palate. Aging smooths out any of the expected.alcohol at 15% ABV. Very good barleywine.

Reeediculous! Insane. Super smooth but very boozy. At 15% I guess they can't help it. Beautiful color with hints of raisins. Not a huge BW fan, but this one might make me revisit that....

Stonking Barleywine made with figs and dates. 15% abv. Huge body, boozy, warming, sweet, rich complex dark fruit. Remains in my top 3 styles. Love this.

2013 edition. Velvety smooth and the dates/figs add something lovely. 15% alc and smooth as butter. Have to get more of these.

I feel privileged to drink a beer so delightful and so rare. The figs and dates blend perfectly with the malt. So smooth and complex. Idc how much a bottle is. Get it once. Spend the money.

Sweet figs on the nose. Taste is slight sweet, filled with fig and dates, and malty. Strong but very smooth. Excellent barleywine.

I guess barley wine is medicinal, blech. Tastes like echinacea, not in a good way.

Love the dates and fig notes. Heavy body. Malty. Low attenuation. Not hot for the alcohol level. No carbonation. Needed that to make the beer pop more on the nose and pallet.
