Olde School

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Heavy and solid. Earthy notes of dates, oak, and bitter chocolate. One per month is plenty. 😁

(4.1) I’ve had this before I was on Untappd. Smooth and Sweet. Giving the edge to the Raisin D’Extra. Both great sippers

This sure didn’t look like a barley wine. Clear Golden pour with a smallish head. But the aromas and the flavors were right on. Molassas and caramel, Dark fruit and a nice hop finish. Pretty tasty stuff.

Hard to think of this as a beer anymore. Pretty tasty and obviously boozy. Definitely a once in a while treat!

Some old school Olde School. That is, this has been in my fridge for 9+ years (2014). “This beer ages with the best of ‘em” on the label. That it does. Seems the 15% has mellowed out as this is drinking real smooth. Sweet and figgy. Still nice carb.

This crowler was tapped from a 2017 batch. It is malty and the viscous sweetness has mellowed with depths of raisins and dark stone fruits. This version may not have stayed as stable as it should have, but it is still nice.

Found this sitting in my wine rack covered in dust. Probably 4-5 yrs old. Label says it ages well, and it wasn’t wrong. Very complex flavors; almost like port wine

Cellared 2007 vintage. Dried fruit, very sweet, strong alcohol warmth that lasts. Slight earthy bitterness that lingers. Some toffee.

Sweet figs on the nose. Taste is slight sweet, filled with fig and dates, and malty. Strong but very smooth. Excellent barleywine.

The annual tasting from the birthday 4-pack: Not too boozy, but there's still a little harshness. I think a little bit more caramel coming through compared to the last tasting.

Deep and smooth. Barley popping in the nose. Sweet, thick fig and dates in the main very rich taste. You can feel the barrel aged oak in this slow sippa...nice way to end a crisp fall weekend.. thanks Geggy!!
