Olde School

Barleywine - American

Bold, yet smooth! Fermented with dates and figs, this bone-crusher has a completely unique flavor. At 15% abv, this beer is a great candidate for ageing. Over time, the beer dries out and the pit fruit flavors come forward and the hops recede.

Grape/plum, clove... very sake-like. Not much of a fan of barleywine style any more 😢

I have what appears to be a 2017. The date stamp is in less than immaculate condition. Still rocking it though. And F this snow.

Leftover from the Extreme Beer Fest. Super good barleywine from Dogfish Head. Fig and date are prominent. Very strong. Surprised the rating isn't a bit higher

Bottled:10/27/14. So good. Smooth AF. Big dig flavor hanging around. I think this may have gotten slightly more alcoholic since it was bottled 😅

That’s a lot of dried fruit flavor. Getting a lot of maple too. Not bad. Just a bit too sweet for me. 15% ABV makes up for that, not that you taste it

Extreme Beer Fest! Boozey figgy aroma, caramel, dates, fig, and malts tastes with a nod to the high ABV, very subtle hops notes, and a warming alcohol finish. @beeradvocate

Figgy notes on the nose, followed by notes of fig, caramel, and malt with each sip. Definitely can feel the booze of 15% ABV. #EBF and 2017 vintage.

Wow. Lots of fig in the smell. Taste is very carmelized, with dates throughout. Sweet finish, but not too malty. Damn good. 2013 version.

This is the 2017 variant that was on tap at the Dogfish Head Alehouse recently. Still mellow and smooth without much fusel burn. Not as sweet and syrupy as some other barleywines and really just a joy to sip.

EBF R2. Pours a dark ruby (held to light) with a white head that fades quickly. The cherry and stone fruit scents are amazing. I could just sniff the glass all night. Smooth sweetness with a nice warming finish. Very dynamic flavors and finish beer

Love the dates and fig notes. Heavy body. Malty. Low attenuation. Not hot for the alcohol level. No carbonation. Needed that to make the beer pop more on the nose and pallet.

I guess barley wine is medicinal, blech. Tastes like echinacea, not in a good way.
