CocoAmburana

Stout - Other

We aged this chewy Imperial stout for 12 months in 12 yer old Bourbon barrels, then steeped it in cocoa nibs, vanilla beans and shaved Amburana wood, which imparts notes of baking spices & gingerbread. The result is a rich, dense and fudgy liquid-chocolate-trufflelike experience best sipped slowly and enjoyed with company.

Beer #8 at WOCAAS 2023. Really dig this. Best new DFH stout in a while.

Late entry; had to wait for this to actually get released. Mark, the head brewer, shared the bottle with our tour about a week before it came out. So exclusive 🥹

Amburana…A South American hardwood that grows in the jungles of Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia & Paraguay, is primarily used for maturing cachaça, adding a ‘Cinnabon-esque’ character to whatever rests on / within it. Pro tip: Let the beer warm a bit…

And I quote myself, “Holy Mother of God!” That is amazing! Chocolate, woodsy oak spice, vanilla, and a light cinnamon like vibe. I destroyed this!

Showing UP... Like drinking a chocolate bar. But not too heavy on the chocolate, if that makes any sense at all.

It doesn't say cinnamon is added, but that is the dominant flavor. Chocolate comes out a little as it warms.

Nice and dark. Dark chocolate, vanilla for sure. Almost coconut-y but not on the tasting notes. Must be the bourbon and the wood. Very nice and drinkable (in small amounts).
