Caramelized oak, smoky dark fruit, and chocolate wood bark nuances with a heavy bourbon presence. Fantastic rainy day sipper

Hefty body, balanced caramel malts and strong pine bitterness, warming. At this abv tastes more like an American barleywine but I'm not complaining

Have been enjoying this whole series so far, light with lingering grapefruit, tasty patio pounder
about 1 year ago
Coffee and chocolate forward, smooth, mild earthy pepper nuances. No big kick here, but it's still tasty and the pepper is noticeable. However, since the name has the word "spicy" in the name I can see how this would be seen as a bit of a letdown
about 1 year ago
Blueberry tartness overpowers any other nuances. Wishing for more balanced effort between blueberry and the coffee/ barrel flavors normally present. Drinkable but won't get again

...and the sun's back out! Was chillin' on the deck with eclipse glasses, vodka chocolate orange martinis, and Pink Floyd too on the nose? I don't think so. Orange and mango, light and fruity, moderate acidity, crisp finish

Boozy, malty, dried fruit nuances, strong burn, robust. Chocolate and espresso really come through as it warms

Crisp, refreshing, lightly hopped citrus, pleasantly surprised by this session

Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. I was worried it would taste like cough syrup, but the chocolate and coffee really come through

Enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. Worried it would taste like cough syrup, but the cherry is really supported by chocolate and coffee

Medium bodied reddish brown hue, caramelized dark fruit, spiced cherries and orange bitters with a generous heap of bourbon. Boozy, but the lighter fruit base makes it easy to down quickly, currently one of my favorites that they offer

Bottle Shop Series: Highball Drifter (2021)
Medium body, orange and cherry with a strong bourbon presence, vanilla and caramel nuances

French Toast Bastard (Barrel Aged Series 2022)
Definitely a breakfast beer, and if you don't love maple you better skip this one. Great mixture of maple, cinnamon, vanilla and bourbon. My favorite bastard for sure
over 2 years ago
18 months in... No carbonation, cold is the equivalent of bourbon and water, warmer the bourbon dominates sweet maple and vanilla
about 3 years ago
Chewy hazelnut and coffee, one of my favorite flavor combinations! Sweet and smooth enough that bourbon doesn't come through until it warms. Great addition to the lineup
about 3 years ago
Love Frangelic, which this reminds me of. More barrel flavor, richer and less sweet. Always drawn to hazelnut coffee and this doesn't disappoint
over 3 years ago
The milk chocolate and coffee aroma alone is almost better than actually drinking it! A step up from the bottle with espresso and chocolate becoming more intense. Smoother with barrel flavors still present but the booze is more subdued

A bit syrupy for me, wood can't save this. Love maple, but hate when cherry reminds me of cough syrup

The old man now has a taste for leather and cigars instead of molasses and dark fruit

KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa (2021)
Too bad it's not cold enough for stout season because I have a ton of these. Boozy with chocolate and cinnamon. Wish there was more coffee, thinking about mixing this with Kbs espresso next time

Bottle Shop Series Highball Drifter
Dark brown hue, fruity with orange and cherry up front, followed by vanilla, caramel and a heap of bourbon to cap it off. Loving this very unique barrel aged brown
over 3 years ago
Soft orange hue. Highly carbonated, overripe mango and vanilla are there, just not very present. Needs more fruit tartness and vanilla sweetness to get that pastry sour feel. Light way to start the day
over 3 years ago
Dark hue, a strange pairing but it's all the food I brought with me🙄😄 Cinnamon chocolate nose, quite boozy and strong with dominant cinnamon and subdued chocolate and vanilla
over 3 years ago
Dark and rich, so much fudge packed in here. I'm not the hugest chocolate fan, but the boozy bourbon and sweet maple finish really sells it for me

Insomnia cure of espresso and bourbon. Have this every year---hard to go wrong with this any time of day

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2016) 12.4%
Last of the Founders stash... It was fun while it lasted!

Can't sleep, let's mess up the body even more with coffee and bourbon

Still smells and tastes like a goddamn beer mocha, but now it's much creamier. Chocolate and coffee really come forward, less boozy than the original. For smoothness, just edges out the original

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2015)
I think it's good I chose to drink this now. Brawny but thin, pretty much tastes like a 12 oz shot of bourbon with a little coffee and chocolate thrown in. Tasty if you like your drinks on the strong side
almost 4 years ago
One of those that definitely improves with a little aging, with more salt and tequila barrel nuances emerging

While not exactly thick like a shake, it does have an oily feel to it. Strong vanilla and coffee, sweet without being cloying, slightly smoky

Mahogany hue. Big, boozy and bold. Malty at the start with classic flavors of dried fruit and caramel, bitter piney bite at the finish. On par with the draft version
about 4 years ago
Amber pour, piney nose. Malty sweetness followed by assertive and lingering resinous hop bitterness and slight booze burn

Game of Thrones - Iron Anniversary IPA
Hazy orange hue, mildly hoppy and citrusy, would make great fridge filler if it were cheaper. Sessionable but unextraordinary

Curmudgeon’s Better Half (2019)
Shared aperitif. Butterscotch bourbon nose, tastes boozy with a nice balance of maple sweetness, a sipper on one of the first warm days of the season
about 4 years ago
Dark brown hue, classic barleywine flavors of dark fruit and caramel, boozy, on the hoppier side with a bitter finish. Prefer English style, but would love to see how this ages

Gloomy thunder and lightning--it's the perfect day for The Secret of Nimh. Lovely sweet and tart raspberry flavors, have this every year!

Golden, dominantly tart, subtly sweet, sharp with a dry finish, hints of wood and green apples

Was going to have this Valentine's Day, but then I ended up working a double shift... Maple syrup hue, stickier with more maple coming through than the 2017, a sweeter less boozy curmudgeon, but still delicious nonetheless

Curmudgeon’s Better Half (2018)
Dark brown hue, bitter bourbon nuances with a hint of maple oakiness, aging nicely

I know my beer purchases have been leaning more towards frugality lately, but it's time for a true treat! Caramel colored hue, both sweet and salty, lime, nutmeg, so amazing! Aged just under a year, a margarita on crack

Smells like raspberries, nice balance of tart raspberry and sweet smooth chocolate. Think chocolate covered Rubaeus, with some smoky nuances. Tasty!

KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge (2020)
Dark rich pour. Smells fudgy! Am I surprised that it tastes like liquid fudge? Came here close to closing time, otherwise I'd let this baby sit. As it warms more of the maple and coffee comes through. Glad I finally got to try it. Thanks James H.

Underground Mountain Brown (2020)
Having a spa/beauty night. What's the point in wearing lipstick or makeup in public when your mask wipes it off/hides your face? Anyone else miss feeling pretty? Nice balance of coffee and bourbon, very boozy but that's a good thing😋

Frangelic Mountain Brown (2019)
Last one from last year, and it's a good thing too. At a year and a half old it's more than met its prime. Starting to break down, not as sweet, very mild coffee and hazelnut notes, mostly tastes like roasted malts. Still drinkable though

Underground Mountain Brown (2019)
Shared thin dark pour. Smells like chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Tastes overwhelmingly of bourbon, strong and smooth, with hints of coffee and chocolate
over 4 years ago
Rainy afternoon pour. Thick, black hue that smells like straight up coffee and booze. Espresso and bourbon hit strongly right away, but smooths out with coffee, vanilla and caramel finish. Definitely better on tap
almost 5 years ago
Black pour, smells like a macchiato. Tastes heavily of espresso and bourbon, boozy, with some vanilla and caramel notes
almost 5 years ago
Shared maple pour. Apparently from 2018, butterscotch and vanilla nose, tastes like sweet maple syrup and caramel with enough bourbon present to balance the sweetness but not be overwhelming. Definitely one to savor
almost 5 years ago
Caramel colored hue. Smells like tequila and lime. Both salty and sweet, this tastes like a margarita on crack. Way better than I thought it would be
almost 5 years ago
National cash shortage is messing everything up, but I can't let the bastards get me down... But one of "those" days deserves one of "those" beers. Aged a year, still taste some caramelized dried fruit, woodsy, bourbon of course prevalent
almost 5 years ago
Golden hue. This reminds me a lot of Frangelic. Like, a lot. It's lighter in mouthfeel, a little heavier on the coffee and a little less sweet than Frangelic, but the taste is very similar
