Surprisingly bright and lively - a lot of fruity hop flavors survived the 10yrs of age

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2018)
Five years might be too long for this beer. Booze and barrel are the main flavors on the palate, though there are some dark fruit flavors (date, mostly) coming through. Thin body.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2020)
Coffee is mostly gone, as expected. Still, that unique chalkiness from the blend of barrel, coffee, and roasted malts that's always characterized KBS for me is front and center. Good, though the whole experience is subdued by the age.

Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS) (2019)
Much more of a nose than the 2020, oddly enough. Lots of dark chocolate on the palate, too, nearly overwhelming the chalky minerality I usually get from KBS. My favorite of the 2018, 2019, and 2020 I tried in tonight's vertical.

Sweet, sour, and boozy in equal measure. They really nailed the "beer meets cocktail" feel.

Too sweet to really be enjoyable. This would be great if it was cut to 1/2 (or even 1/4) strength with regular KBS.

I'm amazed at how much this smells and tastes exactly like French toast. Wow. Not overly sweet/heavy, either, making it surprisingly drinkable for a dessert beer.

Doesn't have a strong marzen biscuity flavor, so it's inoffensive, but a bit boring.

We need more rhubarb lambics, because this is fantastic. Seems like an earthy fruit (vegetable?) is a great way to pull funky flavor out of a yeast profile that would otherwise be just an acid bomb.

The star of the show....only the second time in my life I've ever seen a Cantillon beer on tap. A fantastic beer.

All wood....tastes like a humidor. A really interesting stout, even if it's too much for 12oz.

I have two unrated check-ins apparently, so here we go. This is the classic wet-hopped American IPA. Not the absolute best, but the one that will never not be Top 5 every year, and another testament to Founders' trendsetting.
